Responsibilities:

One of the biggest differences about being a child and being an adult is the responsibilities. Adults nearly everyday of the week go to work. They need to make money in order to live, survive and provide for their family. Children don’t have to worry about working and making a living because they are mostly dependant on their parents for everyday living. In the book ‘Lachlan Leonard Human Torpedo’ Lockie’s dad the Sarge, has responsibilities as a police officer, he has the responsibility to protect and serve the community at large. Police officers have a big responsibility which is very demanding and important. Where as ,Lachlan as a child doesn’t have any big responsibilities like keeping the world a safer place.

Freedom:

In everyday life, choices are made to keep the world going. Adults and children encounter lots of decisions in their life where they need to make decisions. Adults have different priorities and responsibilities in life compared to children. A parent decides their childs well being from medical decisions and education to leisure activities e.g. sport, going out, bedtimes and money. Children need their parent’s permission to go out, whereas adults make their own decisions without needing to ask others. They may ask others for advice but ultimately make their own decisions. Becoming an adult brings many responsibilities upon you. These choices can be life changing and very rewarding.

Relationships:

Another big difference between adults and children are relationships. Children are not as mature as an adult, which is shown in the book ‘lockie Leonard’. It shows that teenagers are not ready for serious relationships, as their main priority is going to school and enjoying life with friends. Teenagers want to experience many things before relationships. Adults on the other hand are mature and are ready for serious relationships. When you are young you are not really attracted in the opposite sex, all you are interested in is friends. As you get older and mature you will become more interested in relationships and in boys/girls.

Current Affairs:

As a child you dislike current affairs. We as children don’t find current affairs interesting; we would rather go do other things. Whereas adults really like current affairs because they find out; what’s going on in the world, the stock market, wars going on, politics and many others. Children don’t have the news/current affairs as one of their top priorities, but as an adult you take time out to watch it.

Transport:

A priority for an adult is having a driver’s license and being able to drive. Adult’s main type of transport is a car, without a car it would be very difficult to get to work, go to the shop and just to go out. Children would rather sit in the back seat and play video games then learn how to drive at a young age. Children don’t worry about driving until they reach the legal age, which then changes their aspect of driving. A child’s main transport at a young age is a bike. A bike is a good way of transport because it is quick and it is a great way to exercise, even Lachlan Leonard rides his bike for transport.

As it can be seen from the above paragraphs, there are many differences between a child and an adult. I have only stated a few but the list could go on and on. Growing up is very exciting and scary. Becoming an adult bring with it greater freedom, different priorities and more responsibilities.
