Science Experiment for Kindergartners

A full description of a fun color activity you can do with Kindergarten aged students.

Materials Needed:

·         Yellow, Red, and Blue paint

·         Plates or Bowls to mix paint on

·         Mixing tool (such as paintbrush, craft stick, etc.)

·         Smocks (to avoid messy clothes)

Procedures:

1.      Have all students in class predict on a table, what will happen when they mix the different colors together.

2.      Divide the class into groups of 3 (if possible) and give each group smocks, enough bowls or plates (depending on the size) to mix all of the colors together and a mixing tool.

3.      Have each student in all of the groups mix at least one color combination.

4.      Make a new graph or chart to show the results and display it in the classroom.

5.      Have each student summarize their experiment results and create their own color wheel.

Assessment:

·         Observation during experiment

·         Assure all students are participating

·         Assure all groups are following directions (obtaining correct results)

·         Grade color wheel accuracy according to experiment results.
