21 Useful Websites for GCSE Revision for Students
Forget books, websites are the way to go and here is a list of sites that you could use for revision for all GCSE Year 10 or Year 11 pupils. Happy revision.
One of the best ways to revise for your GCSEs is the internet. Yes, you might get distracted, but if used wisely, your grades can rocket sky high! I just did my GCSEs and if you find books very tedious, websites are the way to go. I’ve compiled a list of sites for (almost) every subject which I found very useful.
General Sites
http://www.greenfield.durham.sch.uk/acGCSE_Revision.htm
This is the site recommending other websites which actually belongs to a school. This will guarantee that most of the sites that you will use through this are the ones used by pupils just like you. But make sure that whenever you access any site, you make sure the exam board (like AQA, OCR etc) is the same exam board your school follows.
www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize
I know you are rolling your eyes, but BBC’s Bitesize sums up everything that you need to know and whenever you need to revise but you are bored of revision, hop on to Bitesize and just read it and hopefully that should stick.
To start with, your school needs to sign up for Sam Learning and if you speak to a teacher and suggest Sam Learning to them, it will be great because initially, this site looks boring but the practice revision and exam questions in various subjects are really helpful. Because it is timed, it gives a real sense of exam feeling as well.
This isn’t the best site that there is but I still find it pretty helpful to give you the basics. I’d suggest this site along side Bitesize as free time learning.
http://www.revisionaid.co.uk/directory.php?cat=ks4Main
This site is like the first one I recommended as it gives links to other sites that contain important or useful material for you to use. You will find a fair amount of sites that I’ve covered in this article but this site is better if you have more time on your hands
Exam Paper Sites
www.freeexampapers.comWhat better way is there to prepare for an exam than practicing past exam papers? Exam boards like AQA and OCR do their own online exam papers but sometimes, they don’t have all of the papers you need. Exam boards like Edexcel don’t share any papers at all so here is a place you can find (nearly) all of them.
https://eiewebvip.edexcel.org.uk/pastpapers/
This is the Edexcel past papers site but for this you need your school’s centre number, which is easily got if you’ve done any other exams. You should find it on any result slips if you have one or otherwise, contact your school’s exam office to know what it is.
These three sites are useful for science (especially Edexcel 360) past papers and I’d fully recommend it to anyone.
English, English Literature and Media Studies
This site is the best site I’ve ever used for English and English Lit. It is incredibly helpful for poems and even coursework and novels. It focuses on the AQA exam board and if that is the one that you do, you should find it really helpful. However, some parts of the AQA specification do overlap with other exam boards so you should find some bits helpful at least.
If you need help with English Language and Media Studies, I’d go to this site. It isn’t one of the best sites you can have but it still is very helpful in terms of techniques and if you practice exactly what is said on this site, you should find your English Language and Media Studies exams very easy.
Maths and Statistics
This site is the best maths site you can ever find on the internet, but may I recommend Sam Learning as well. Mymaths works a bit like Sam Learning where your school has to sign up to it but on this occasion, I can give you the username and password. Please note though, these username and passwords expire after a given amount of time so be aware that it might not work ALL of the time. However, if you Google ‘mymaths, username, password’ – there are LOADS you can find.
Username: qbs
Password: square
Please note that there are no spaces or capital letters in what I have given you.
There is a special GCSE Statistics section for all of those who do it.
History
Follow the instructions on this site and I guarantee everyone at least an A. This site is pure genius as it is written by a history teacher. It concentrates mainly on AQA but there is plenty of material for OCR pupils. I used this site and I can recommend it to anyone straight away that this will simply history for you. It gives links to other sites like the History Learning website and plenty more but the tips and material on this site is utter brilliance.
Design and Technology
This involves Electronics, Resistant Materials, Graphics, Textiles, Food Tech and plenty more.
Tech exams can be hard to revise for but this site divides it all up for easily in little chunks. There are many practice exercises for you to use but this one is incredibly helpful for technical terminology. Don’t forget to use Bitesize because that is really helpful too.
http://www.design-technology.info/home.htm
Another really helpful site, this one is pretty good too, but I suggest that you don’t fully rely on these two sites but do your own bit of research as well as revising from this site.
Languages
This works like Sam Learning where you need a username and password after your school signs up for it and if your school does have it, do use it because it is very helpful. I can’t suggest loads because at the end of the day Bitesize, Sam Learning and the S-Cool site give you enough revision material which you can use and languages aren’t really the sort of thing you revise for from a site, but there are many books that I will suggest further on that you could use.
Business Studies
http://tutor2u.net/revision_notes_business_gcse.htm
I like the layout of this site and I think you will find it particularly helpful in terms of the notes it gives so make good use of it. However, if you shuffle about the site, you can find other subjects too which you may find useful but this is the best site for Business Studies that I could find.
Music
http://www.rpfuller.com/gcse/music/
The layout of this site is very basic and it covers nearly everything that could be deemed useful to know. I am not a musician so to me this looks like gibberish but I think it is pretty helpful in terms of the theory material that is stated.
Geography
http://www.geography.learnontheinternet.co.uk/gcse/index.html
Use this site well because it has very condensed notes on the things you need to know and you may find it helpful if you prefer revising simplified notes. I find this quite easy to read and understand and it should be really helpful if you use it along side any detailed notes that you have.
PE
http://www.teachpe.com/gcse.php
This site again, has everything you need to know in condensed forms. It has images so you can learn well if you are a visual learner and overall, when I scanned through this site, it seemed pretty useful to me.
Those were all of the websites that you could use but may I suggest books as well?
These guys make the best books in the world. These revision guides are really simple but really helpful especially the Science (Edexcel ALWAYS asks questions from it) and the Maths ones. Don’t buy the History one because it isn’t very useful and I’m not sure about a few others but the languages including English seem pretty good. They are really affordable and for a cheaper deal I’d recommend www.ebay.co.uk because there you might be able to find plenty of other revision guides.
http://www.lettsandlonsdale.com
These revision guides especially for French and English are superb. There is a special book that is ‘Aiming For A*’ in English and if you are an A* candidate, get it, because that will be the best purchase ever.
Another book very helpful for languages apart from the site above is “Vocabulary for GCSE Spanish 3rd Edition”, where you can substitute Spanish for French or German. These books are brilliant vocabulary lists – a must have for any language student.
So good luck for your GCSEs next year and if you like this article, Digg it please and make sure you share it with all of your friends!
