People do experience brain freeze, to some degree when we encounter risk. After a shock someone, normally offers you tea or a stiff drink, it is far better for you to make it on your own. As going through the emotions prompts your brain to function to co-ordinate the movements . Once one area of the brain gets going, it kick starts the others. This allows you to shake off the incredulity response. If there is no time to make tea, running through the alphabet in your head should help.
