Studying with Flashcards

Studying with Flashcards

Flashcards are a great way to study and memorize important information. On one side of the card, you can write a vocabulary word and on the other side its definition.

Whether you are studying for a history exam or are trying to learn some new vocabulary words for the GRE exam, writing down information on flashcards is a very effective study method. For instance, you need to learn several formulas for geometry. Take one side of the card and draw a straight angle and on the back of the card write its measurement, which is 180 degrees. On another card, you can draw a right angle, 90 degrees on the other side and so on. Since I was a child, I played the piano. My teacher used to write all the musical notes for the G clef and the F clef on one side and the correct note on the other side. I learned all the notes very quickly using this method.

Flash cards can be carried in your purse or bag. During lunch, you can review them. Right before an exam, you can quickly review skim them. At work, you can always keep them next to your desk and glance at them. Flash cards provide a way for students to retain the material better. Let’s say that you want to increase your vocabulary. So today, I will write several words using the letter A on one side of the card along with its definition on the other. By the time you write all the words with the letter A down and their definition, I can almost guarantee that you will have those words memorized. And you can keep writing down words on flashcards until you get to the last letter of the alphabet. According to studies, flashcards is used as a learning drill to aid memorization.

I can see why this method works. I read a book once,’Write it down make it happen.’ Write it on a flashcard and make your brain remember I think also applies. Great article!
