Despite the fact that there are classes attributed to physical education in secondary as well as primary schools nowadays, the students and pupils either shirk these periods or prefer to go to the library respectively.  Most PE teachers do not bother about these offences committed.  Neglecting sport thus can become the cause of indiscipline in schools.  Therefore sport should be compulsory in schools.

Firstly, fitness and good health, being characteristic of sport would be an additional advantage to students if it was optional.  Due to the new, modern technological developments – including the sophisticated computers along with their games and internet packages, passive pastimes are accumulating.  Instead of taking the risk of becoming fat and suffering from eye strains and headaches, forced sport at schools will offer to help the pupils to stay fit, sporting good health.

There are also cases where the children going to schools lack time to practise sport because probably they live very far from the schools.  Or maybe their parents do not appreciate when their offspring ‘lose’ their time taking part in sport; neglecting their studies.  Here, compulsory sport would indeed prove to be a pleasure to these students.  They would then actively participate in friendly volleyball matches or scoring marks at the basketball pitch instead of having tired but helpless eyes riveted on the computer screen.

Moreover, the response time of the learning children would be better if sport was compulsory in schools.  This is because when people do sport regularly, they develop a particular sense of increased alertness.  As a result, the pupils would have instantaneous reflexes to any topic put forward to them.  One has truly said that “a healthy body together with a healthy mind is indeed an advantage to pupils”.  For instance, there would be a definite contrast between a pupil who has stayed up watching a late film on TV and another one who has participated actively in an afternoon game of badminton the next day.  The former would be without doubt helplessly yawning during class – he or she will not be able to follow the teacher’s explanation – whereas the energetic student would be keen and attentive to the class.

These are the reasons why sport should be compulsory in schools. In brief, sport in educational institutions not only stimulates the brain but also reduces the stress of the students in their studies.
