$100 Bucks for a Face Like Miley – You Can’t be Cyrus?

Miley Cyrus endorsing Sensai Cleanser to the acne troubled teens around the globe – I take a look at the real price of beauty and the lengths teens will go to to follow in the footsteps of their idols.

Sensei: defined by Wikipedia as a Japanese title referring to teachers or figures of authority.

Sensei Cleanser: defined by Miley Cyrus, international pop superstar and idol as the answer to the prayers of prepubescent teens around the globe.

Yet at $100 a ‘pop’ for just over 3 ounces of this ‘miracle’ acne eraser, what lengths will the youth of today go to in order to emulate their favourite stars?

Tweeting on Twitter, this teen twit states that ”Sensei face wash steps 1 and 2 has CHANGED her life!” adding that she ”gave sensei cleanser to a friend on Friday. They were really broken out, just saw ‘them and the skin is clear and so beautiful!” Now don’t get me wrong but after suffering from acne as a teenager myself as most youngsters do, I cannot conceive that a few days of soaking your face in what one can only imagine is a tonic made from actual dollar bills, would rid anyone, let alone the suffering teen of their facial faux pas. Call me pessimistic, call me an old fart (I’m 26 for reference!) but I would have to say that our little Hannah Montanna has indeed become as money driven as the company managing her career and will no doubt be seen in the next few months carrying her miracle face wash around in her Vuitton handbag further endorsing her new favourite product.

I consider myself someone who takes care of their looks. I gym regularly, I eat well, sleep well and have a facial cleansing, toning and moisturising routine that someone my age should have. I too have my idols. But rest assured that if my personal icons advised the nation that leaping like lemmings of the nearest cliff was the answer to ridding me of a spot or two, I would have to say that I would not be heading for the closest ridge.

I am not disputing that Sensei is indeed a fantastic cleansing ritual. I would imagine that for a hundred bucks it would have to do something pretty astonishing to warrant the price tag. However, I do not agree with the endless advertising campaigns endorsed by younger pop stars and movie stars that are turning the teen world upside down. When will the madness end? Will it indeed end at all? Will we soon be cleansing our toddlers botoxed faces with Louis Vuitton wipes, before they head out to play in their designer duds, unaware of what it is actually like to remain a child?

Being young is indeed a gift child of today and at 13 years old as much as you dispute the fact you are still children, minors, and young people. The reason that Miley uses Sensei is that she can afford to use it and it has most probably been prescribed to her by some Hollywood Dermatological whiz that probably charges around the same for a half hour session discussing the needs of her clogged pores. Miley also has a great Photoshop team that I am sure let no zit go unnoticed.

The rules to clear skin stand steadfast and strong and have done for many years. An over production in sebum, an oil naturally occurring in our bodies is usually stimulated during puberty causing skin to break out at times, admittedly some people suffer more than others it’s true, but there are ways to deal with problem skin without breaking the bank kids. Drink plenty of water to flush those toxins out. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. Exercise. Don’t smoke, take drugs or forget to do your homework. Okay, the last suggestion isn’t scientifically proven, but you get my point.

Your skin will get better as you get older. FACT. It’s all just a part of growing up. We all go through it. If your skin problems persist by all means see your GP for a prescription to help clear up the acne, and whatever you do, do not pick at your face.

Leave the hefty price tags to those lucky enough to afford them and to us grown ups, and enjoy your youth because in the words of Miley Cyrus herself…it’s all about the climb.
