Anti-Bullying at School

The way the bullies at school act, forget them and they will start to forget you.

Bullying is a problem that happens at many schools, but not many kids tell adults about this situation. They are afraid that they will be picked on even more and be considered weak and helpless. However, the student will keep being pushed around if he/she does not tell anyone. That’s what makes the nature of bullying all the more infuriating to the people who are innocent.

The most basic forms of bullying start out as both verbal and mental abuse. The best approach for being treated this way is to ignore it. If the student ignores it, it no longer becomes fun for the bully. Thus, the bully no longer bothers you. If the bully just keeps going and starts to make personal attacks, this can pressure a student. For this, the approach should be to stop it right away by telling a teacher, parent, guidance counselor, or other responsible adult. Ignoring this step could result in too much anger and pressure and cause you to make an erratic move that may hurt you or some of the other people around you. Sadly, but true, some students have been driven to committing suicide or taking a gun to school. These students may end up in jail, dead or if they are lucky, a place where they can learn to control themselves.

What makes a bully? A bully is usually someone who does not have any friends or has many negative things about his/herself that he/she doesn’t want anybody else to see. The bully uses his/her strength and pushes people around and focuses attacks and unneeded attention on a person(s). Fortunately the majority of the students in a school are not bullies. Bullies are often misunderstood and don’t make friends as easily as others. The negative things that they have about themselves drives them to commit these acts. For example, they might not be as good looking or they don’t have very good grades or they don’t fit in very well with others. Gradually, as the bully becomes lonely in school emotions go the wrong way and it makes the bully inconsiderate of other people.

What can be done to stop bullying is to tell a grown-up. If you don’t tell, no help will come to you. You may also join an anti-bullying club that supports people who are being bullied. You should be firm and assertive when a bully tries to irritate or tease you. These are ways to take bullying out of what you think of when you see the word, “school“. School is a place to learn and have fun, not be bullied and abused.

In conclusion, a bully is someone who has low self-esteem. There are many forms of bullying such as cyber-bullying and there are ways to help you if you are being bullied like telling an adult ignoring it and walking away.
