Becoming a Babysitter
It’s hard to find a job that you love such as babysitting at a young age. It’s frustrating when the only kids you can babysit are your siblings. Here is how most babysitters become experts and how you can start.
To become a babysitter you must be very mature. If you’re not than it could affect who hires you. If you are just starting to become interested in babysitting it is important that you start off small. Since you’re new then you could watch younger family members while their parents do what they need to get done. Believe it or not but most people who are starting to babysit watch younger children while their parents mow the lawn or have to go outside to see if the mail is there. You increase the time that you watch young children every time you do it.
If your parents are not so sure you’re ready for babysitting then it’s time to prove to them that you are mature. Start off by becoming more responsible in things you already do. If you are not turning in all your homework on time make time to do it when you get home for school. If your parents are still doing your laundry ask them to teach you how to do it if you don’t know how. If you already know how to do then do it. Show you parents that you are responsible and are mature. Don’t be lazy or complain when you’re asked to do something.
If you’ve already babysat your siblings but, want to be able to get out there and babysit for your neighbors or friends in your area then you’ll have to work a little harder. If you know anybody on or around you block with children stop by their houses and tell them you’re interested in babysitting. Based on your age it may affect who would like to hire you. If you’re 13 and older you have higher chances of being hired then someone 13 and younger. You can also send fliers around the city with your parents permission. If you have a friend that babysits tell them you’re interesting in a babysitting job and if they can’t babysit you’ll do it for them. Ask you parents if they’ll ask some of the employees at their job if they need or know of somebody that needs a babysitter. It may take a couple months to become a known or just a regular babysitter who babysits all over your area.
Just because you may know a few people who need babysitters doesn’t mean that you’re good at babysitting. You should learn how to perform CPR and learn basic babysitting skills in your neighborhood. After taking classes and learning CPR than you have even HIGHER chances of being hired. Make sure that before you say yes to any person who needs a babysitter you ask your parents for approval. Have fun, be safe and be creative!
