Boredom in School? No Way
Editorial about teens being bored in school.
You know how the life is of a typical teenager. It revolves around friends, technology, and always wanting something. You often hear the complaint “I’m bored” or “I don’t have anything to do.” They have all this energy and they don’t know what to do with it.
Well, I’m one of those teens and I know how it feels to be them in school. You have to stay for about 6-7 hours in a place you don’t want to be, learning about something you really couldn’t care less about, and participating in things that you definitely wouldn’t participate in voluntarily. You are forced to think and actually use your brain and sometimes that can actually be quite painful.
In high school, you can’t even go outside for a break from all this learning nonsense. You have lunch and that’s all for the breaks of the day. Of course, we teens are not satisfied with this. Lunchtime is the only time in school that we have to socialize and this is not a very pleasing concept to the teenager mind. We don’t even get to get up in class, unless we ask to go to the bathroom or get our books or the like.
I think it would be a good idea to make it a law to give the students a break in the school day where they aren’t eating or learning. It would be refreshing and good for our minds. An added bonus is that we could get out all of that extra energy that we have so we aren’t completely tuning out in class (just partially).
I’ve heard that in some schools, there aren’t even study halls. I’ve never once attended one of these schools and I would dislike it greatly to do so. Imagine that. There wouldn’t even be anytime at all for the students to complete some of their homework. They would just learn and learn and learn, then eat, then do some more learning! It’s an outrage!
I believe that every teen has the right to have some time to refresh their mind. If you learn the whole day without a break, you won’t actually absorb as much as you would when you have time to take some mental time. Students are like sponges. We can only absorb so much before some of that information starts leaking out. It’ll all start fading together until we’re so confused we don’t even know how to answer the easiest questions.
Adding a break in school where nothing is required and we can do whatever we want would greatly increase our capacity for learning and help with our concentrating and focusing in class. I believe that every teen would appreciate it greatly, and especially me!
