Fake I.D.s, what is the thrill of this? For anyone under the age of twenty one it is that of being able to get into the clubs and being able to drink when ever and where ever they chose. Yet this seems to be a fun thing at the time and no big deal, it actually it, fake ids are illegal.

Fake I.D.s have become a major part of collegiate life and with that other problems are on the rise. One study completed by the University of Missouri- Columbia shows that there is a direct correlation between fake id ownership and heavy alcohol consumption within college freshman and sophomores students. This is not a good correlation due to the fact that heavy alcohol consumption can lead alcohol poisoning, due to too much drinking, drunk driving and possibly even death.

This study, which took place over a four semester time period, shows that the ownership of fake ids rose from 12.5 percent to 32.2 percent among people under the legal drinking age. That study though also showed that most of those who had fake ids were those who belonged to sororities and fraternities.

Fake ids now though have developed a lot over time. Originally when someone tried to fake their age, they would photocopy their birth certificate and change the birth year, then from there they would copy and paste a picture on to another id, which were very easy to recognize. Yet not any more, now these ids are to the point that some even take a laboratory technician with special lab equipment to detect the difference between one that is real and one that is not.

Aside from that the better they are becoming the easier that they are becoming to obtain. One way that has been around for a while is that of getting the id of someone that is over the legal age that looks similar, yet that way makes there a chance of getting caught. If not that way there are websites that with little effort and a Wal-Mart basic printer you can make your own. If you do not want to put in the effort though there are websites all over the internet that from $9.99 up to $150 they will do all of the work for you, all you have to do is supply a picture and the fake id is on the way.

Fake I.D.s have been around for years now though they are becoming more and more realistic. Now people are able to get away with these fakes longer for getting into the clubs and being able to buy alcohol. The thrill is for the moment, though is that thrill still as good when a cop busts you on that fake? The law does not look at fake ids as only a thrill, but yet a crime. Using a fake I.D is actually considered a form of identity fraud. This is a large crime that can face fines and even a possible jail time. Is that six pack or that entrance into that one club worth all of the punishments afterwards?
