Five Reasons to Stay in School: A Boy’s Perspective

A sarcastic article about why to stay in school.

I used to hear every week or so a few excuses to stay in school. They ranged from “You can get a good life” to “You can make your mom happy”. But who really cares about having a good life? Why take life so seriously? Like one of my favorite sayings says, “Don’t take life seriously, no one’s gets out alive”. If you want to actually live until ninety or one hundred, have a good family, make some money, and have the good life, go ahead! Finish school for all I care. You would actually have some kind of “motivation” (as the educated say).

But what if you didn’t? What if you didn’t care about all the worldly luxuries, and having a good life? What if you just didn’t care, or have a huge family fortune backing you up? You wouldn’t have any need to continue high school and go into college.

Or would you?

Yes, having a good life full of luxuries, friends, love and children are not all the good reasons to finish high school and go to college. There are other reasons too. The one main reason is the fun of going to school. What do I mean by fun?

Well, I certainly don’t mean that academics is the fun. As a student academics is the exact opposite. Academics holds you back from having fun. So what is the “fun” of school? Here’s a list of the top five:

  1. Girls – As a boy in your late teens, you must have experienced some attraction to the opposite gender. It’s hard to avoid, but it’s the truth. You will experience some kind of attraction to girls. However, if you decide to drop out of high school, you will most likely not see all the attractive girls all around you.
  2. Friends - Everyone needs friends. Even you do. If you don’t have any friends now, don’t worry, eventually, you will make some.
  3. Picking on the Freshmen – This is one of the things high school is for. Picking on the little fishies is one of the best things you can do in high school. It’s what being an upperclassmen is all about, right? You can use your authority to pick on all the little underclassmen. Shoving them into their lockers is just too fun. Shoving them into the girls bathroom though… we’re not going to go there.
  4. Skipping school – Yes, you could just drop out of school, and skip school worry free, but you could also just skip school a few days on a fabricated excuse. It’s more fun that way. There’s a certain thrill of skipping school with your friends rather than dropping out of school by yourself.
  5. Getting on the teachers’ nerves – Isn’t it fun to see how pissed your teacher can get because of you? There’s just something that appeases you like nothing else to see a teacher get pissed at you. It almost surpasses the fun of making a freshman act like the football during practice… almost.

So you see, staying in high school for all four years can be pretty dang fun. And if you multiply this amount of fun times a hundred, you have college. So there you go. That’s why you should stay in school.

Reminder: This article is not serious in any way. It was only made to entertain. The author does not emphasize that a person should drop out of school, or make bad decisions.
