Part time jobs
If teenagers who are still in school are asked if they prefer to do part-time jobs, most of them would answer ‘yes’. Part-time jobs allow teenagers or students to make their own money and do what they like with it. Teenagers like to keep op with the latest fashion and trends and if they have their own money, they need not approach their parents.
Parents especially from the lower income group have to fork out money for school, books, tuition and pocket money. Children who come from such backgrounds may have little money to do what they like. Thus, part-time jobs can relieve the financial burden of parents.
Part-time jobs encourage students to be independent and responsible. They need not to depends to their parents for some of their needs like pocket money or buying books. Students also learn to be more responsible as they learn to manage their own money since they had worked and earned it. Once teenagers know how difficult it is to earn a living, they will be more appreciate what they have and this will drive them to study harder.
Not only will students learn how to manage their money, they will also learn time management. They will know how to divide their time between studies and their jobs. Learning how to manage their time and money is very important for a successful future.
However, not every student who holds a part time job will do well academically or will develop positive qualities or skills. Many students who do part-time jobs become money-oriented and this may effects their studies. Part-time jobs may expose students to social ills as their circle of friends widens and students come into contact with delinquents such as drug addicts. Students who are in their teen are at an age when they cannot differentiate between what is good for them and what is not. Once students start to earn and stand on their own feet, they become distracted. Their academic performance may show a decline and these disinterested students may play truant or even become dropouts.
In conclusion, only students who can handle both their work and studies should be allowed to hold part-time jobs. If they cannot cope with their studies, then parents should intervene and take the necessary action because most of part time jobs are jobs that do not require great knowledge and will not lead to meaningful full time jobs. But they have to conclude this two statement in order they want to be a success person in their life.
