Step one

Letting them know you want one. The first thing you should do is let them know you would like a cell phone, this way they could start comparing prices. If you don’t say any thing then how will you be able to convince them having a cell phone is a good thing?

Step two

Give them a few good reasons why you should have one. Chances are if you tell them you want a cell phone they won’t just run out and buy you one, give them reasons why. For example:

1. If I need to call you for something I can get in touch with you allot quicker and easier.
2. If I had a cell phone I wouldn’t have to tie up the phone line all the time.
3. If the was an emergency I would be able to call the appropriate help.

I’m sure you can think of allot more reasons why it is important to have a cell phone handy, the more reasons you have the better your chances.

Step three

Give them a list of phones prices and deals. So your parents’ say well how much will it cost, this is the major make it or break it stage in getting a cell phone. If you have to buy the phones with your own money then look for a cheaper affordable phone. For example I bought my phone for 45$ at TELUS, its pre paid so I have to top up the card each month. Giving your parents lots of information on family plans or pre paid phones are good ways to show them you really want that cell phone.

Step four

Making deals with your parents. So you showed them you are interested and told them about all of these grate deals now it’s to make a deal with your parents if the need one out of you. Tell them you will do some extra work to help pay for the phone or try and save up the money your self to get your phone and help pay for the first few phone cards or phone bills). Remember your cell phone has a limit it is not full of unlimited and free things for you to mess around with. If you want to keep you phone then you’ll limit your phone calls and text messages, and always have it charged and ready for the next day.
