Pull Up Your Pants
Whether it’s generation X, Y or Millennium, the tendency of young men to lower their pants to levels of extreme is just one more example of the everlasting desire of teenagers to irk their parents.
If you are older than 30, chances are you wear a belt with your pants or at the very least the waist band is at the same height of your hips. But for the current crop of youth, the lower your pants go – the cooler you are.
Really?
What exactly is the appeal of having jeans dropped down just above the knees with the boxers pulled up to barely cover your butt? Do you need the breeze on your cheeks or are you just exceptionally proud of the fruit of the loom drawers your Mom just got you? Maybe there’s a bladder problem and in the race to get to the bathroom in time you don’t want to have an accident. I’m sure your grand-pop can relate and would agree in that case, time is of the essence. Of course that wouldn’t explain why he always wears his trousers up to his neck, but then maybe that why he wears the depends in the family.
The biggest question posed is more about logistics as opposed to fashion – How are you supposed to walk with your baggies threatening to strangle your ankles? Half the time a low riding teenager waddles like a penguin and God forbid he have to get somewhere in a hurry. Penguins don’t run, hell they can’t even fly.
So what’s the appeal here?
Is it just another way for the younger generation to piss off the old dudes? When adults leave their presence do they all grab their jeans and yank them up, giving a contented sigh of relief that the grown ups have finally left and they can, at long last cover their ass?
Maybe having your pants below your butt is another way to attract the opposite sex, or same sex, or both. Whatever works for you. I don’t judge, just curious.
