10 Easy Steps to Fix Your Four Wheeler/ATV

10 Easy Steps to Fix Your Four Wheeler/ATV

Steps to fix 50cc, 70cc, 90cc or 110cc Chinese made four wheelers and ATV’s. Great reference manual for ATV enthusiast.

Here is a comprehensive checklist that will help you trouble shoot your 50cc, 90cc or 110cc Chinese ATV or Four-wheeler:

  1. Check the Battery: Make sure all connections are properly connected and that there are no loose wires.
  2. The battery may not be fully charged: Make sure that the battery is charged before attempting to start your four-wheeler.
  3. Check the fuel and the fuel line: Make sure that the four-wheeler has gasoline. Check to see if the motor is getting fuel and that the fuel line is not broken or pinched.
  4. Clean out the carburetor with a carburetor cleaner: Many times these four wheelers sit in warehouses for a long time before they arrive at your doorstep and dust builds up which may clog the carburetor.
  5. Check the spark plug: A motor cannot start without a spark, take out the spark plug wire and make sure that it is clean and getting a spark.
  6. Many of these come with an automatic shut off in the back: Check the back plug and make sure that it is properly connected and not off.
  7. The break needs to be applied in order for the unit to start: Make sure that there is no faulty connection in the break lever and that when you are starting it the break is applied.
  8. Check the Stator: This is a common problem with these, if you hear a clicking when your engine turns over it is most likely your stator.
  9. If the engine does not turn on or the battery is not recharging itself after you have gotten the engine to start the it is most likely your stator.
  10. If it not any of these things and your four: Wheeler is still not starting it is possible that your CDI box is not working properly. The CDI box or brain box is your four wheelers electrical ignition system. If this is not working properly then it wont start.

Parts for these four wheelers are usually pretty cheap and easy to get. They have very simple engine designs and can be worked on by pretty much any mechanic or amateur mechanic with minimal mechanical knowledge. Although it may get frustrating always use common sense there is always a solution to any problem if you look for it.

Good Luck!

Was thinking about buying a panther for my 5 year old son. Is it a good 4 wheeler or not? From what I see on this site several of you have trouble starting it after the first time..

I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy one of these Chinese 4 wheelers. You may get a good one or you may get a POS. If you’re mechanically inclined and enjoy making repairs frequently, go ahead and get one. If you want something you don’t have to mess with, get a Honda. Mine has so many problems, I don’t have enough room on this page to list them all.

We got one of those crappy Chinese-made 4-wheelers, too. It’s great for the kids, but pretty cheesy. One day, it quit unexpectedly and wouldn’t start again. We found an extra ignition module in the spare parts bag – that’s a hint from the supplier I think. Changed it out, and away it went. Trouble is, I can’t find a spare now. Did anybody else have this problem, and did anybody find a spare?

I got mine 2nd hand but have put 70 bucks into it and think I can fix carb. I have a man who sells these in Ohio and can order all parts I need if he don’t have them and coils are a big thing with these. e-mail me at stonefly71@columbus.rr.com and will give name # of my guy and hey can give parts place he goes thru in FL.

I don’t recommend anyone wasting money on the Panther 110 four wheeler. My husband & I brought two for our grandchildren (christmas 2008) one ran for about 15 minutes, the other wouldn’t even start. Both have been carried back to the dealer numerous times and they still won’t run. I just wish that I had found this website ealier because after reading all the complaints I also would have bought a Honda. I guess the old saying is true “You get what you pay for.”

Well….when he took the starter off it was full of oil.. once he cleaned it and put it back on the 4 wheeler started right up and we have not had anymore problems. now we just need to find out why oil is getting in the starter…..any ideas from anyone would be appreciated.

I hav a 200CC and it wount start with the start buttton but if you jump acros the sylinod it turns over but no start. It has spark and fuel. Battery voltage is good. You have to have the brake set to start it and it is set.Eny idea

Jeff, posted this comment on Mar 10th, 2009

I just bought one of these POS first you need to tighten the power wires to the battery. You MUST unhook the black box under it all that extra kids safety junk makes it hard to start and to stay started. Next I had to unhook key and wire straight to starter button. 4 wheeler runs great but now the body is falling apart. I need a whole new rear end & sprocket. But in my overall honest judgement save the extra money and buy a quality name brand.

Sam, posted this comment on Mar 14th, 2009

Mine does the same thing, I pulled the starter off to see if it would spin, it was 80% smoke checked, so a new starter is needed. Pull the starter, three metric 8’s I think is the socket I used, pull the starter straight out from the brake pedal side, be carefull of the chain. Good luck. Sam

Sam, posted this comment on Mar 14th, 2009

I forgot to include in my previous post that the starter did spin, but it’s pretty much burned up/siezed which is why the relay just clicked. This was a test ATV for my daughter so I’m glad I didn’t spend a lot of money for one. I agree with Jeff, the body takes a beating and I got rolled so the paint is pealing, no big deal. Overall I’m satisfied with it, my main complaint is how the battery is mounted, man that battery takes a beating big time. Now I’ll check some of the links in the post for a new started, thanks to all posters.

I replaced the starter and it fired right up. Rode it a couple of days and now it blows fuses as soon as the key is turned on. Jeff how did you connect your wires to bypass the key start?

Sam, posted this comment on Apr 8th, 2009

Found the problem, it was a bad spark plug, if you need a replacement plug here is the Champion plug to get: 808-Z9Y

My husband and I were thinking of purchasing a Panther 110 Honda motor from a friend. They said gas was leaking out of the air filter. Is this expense to fix and is it worth the time and trouble? If it simple I am a do-it-yourselfer and with some direction do you think I can fix the problem myself? Would you recommend we buy or pass, the price is $200.

Rob/ Ont Can, posted this comment on Apr 10th, 2009

Shannon the gas comming out of your carb is an easy fix you have to take the carb off and adjust the float so that it isn’t getting to much fuel. They have a cheap knock off carb and the float tab bends easy try starting there.

I bought a Panther 110 4 wheeler for my grand kids for Xmas.
It has been nothing but trouble. The first thing was gas leaking out of the carburetor. I adjusted the float to fix that. Then the engine would barely turn over and I had to remove the spark plug and put gas directly into the cylinder when the engine was cold to get it started. After starting and running for a few minutes , it ran OK for a while. Then the chain started jumping off. I tightened it, reset it straight but it would’nt stay. I finally removed the swingarm and there was not even a bushing installed on one side of the swingarm so it was causing misalignment. After correcting that , the starting problem got worse. It was a nightmare every time we tried to start it. I thought it was because the battery was so small so I
changed to a larger battery and it still did’nt fix the problem. Eventually it would’nt start at all. The panther is definitely a piece of junk. Ours has only been ridden maybe 5 hours. We litteraly worked on it 3 times as much as it’s been ridden. I think we should ban together and sue. At least we should stop the importing of this garbage and maybe keep others from wasting their money.
