10 Tips to Check Before You Buy a Motorcycle
What you should keep in mind while you buy a Motorcycle.
To buy a motorcycle is not an easy task as it might seem. If you are a first time user, then you certainly need a guide or, a friend who would let you know about the fine intricacies of motor cycles, before you decide to buy one.
And if you have decided to purchase a second hand motorcycle, then you are advised to hire a motor mechanic who would test ride the bike to let you know whether the particular bike is the right one for you or not.
What should you check before you buy a motorcycle? Though, you require a guide, still if you follow few guidelines, you could select the right motorcycle for you, on your own.
Here are few guidelines that would help you to buy a motorcycle.
- If you look to buy a second hand motorcycle, then the first thing that you need to check is the ownership papers. You should inquire whether the motorcycle’s ownership papers are genuine or not. You should also make sure that the motorcycle is insured.
- Always do a check ride. A check ride would give you an idea about the motorcycle. You would know whether you felt comfortable, or otherwise.
- Find out the bike’s fuel consumption capacity. You need to know how many kilometers your bike would run on a single liter of petrol. You should always look to buy a low fuel consumption bike, if you want a bike for everyday use.
- Ask for a catalogue and get information about the engine capacity. A 100-150cc bike is advised for frequent use. If you want to buy a sports bike then look for a 500cc bike and above.
- Make sure that the brakes are good enough
- If you are a first time motorcycle user, opt for a light vehicle, rather than a heavier one, as it would give you more control of your bike. Once you become an expert you can always buy a heavier bike later.
- Read the catalogue carefully and inquire about the free service that your bike would get from the dealer, once you purchase a bike
- There are free accessories that come along with the new motorcycle. Make sure you get all the free accessories. Normally, catalogues do not carry the list of free accessories; you need to ask the motorcycle dealer about the accessories.
- Always remember alloy wheels are better than spoke wheels. It gives you a better control of bikes.
- Never drive a motorcycle without a valid license. Arrange a license for yourself before you decide to purchase a motorcycle.
Finally, test ride several bikes before you buy one.
