1. Let gravity be your friend. There’s no need to hit the accelerator going down a hill.
2. Drive smoothly, avoiding harsh acceleration and rough gear changes.
3. Check the air filter regularly. A dirty air filter restricts flow to the engine.
4. Don’t stock-pile things in your car. The more weight it’s carrying the less efficient it will become.
5. Drive with the windows up. This limits drag and allows smooth airflow over the car, making it more streamlined.
6. Check your tyre pressure often. Having the right amount of air in your tyres reduces resistance making your car move more easily. This also means less energy is needed to gain momentum.
7. Pay attention to what’s coming up ahead. There’s no need to waste fuel accelerating when there’s a red light up ahead.
8. Use the air conditioning as little as possible as it uses a huge amount of fuel.
9. Keep up with services and maintenance checks. Finding a problem early will save you in the long run.
10. Don’t rest your foot on the brake, no matter how lightly you do it it could still contribute to drag and wear out the brakes quicker.
11. Make sure the gas cap is on tightly. Fuel can evaporate is there’s an opening.
12. Avoid long-warm ups. One minute is enough for most cars, any more and you’re just wasting fuel.
