No Trade-Ins

As we travel more and more miles, natural deterioration is inevitable.

When you buy a new car, it practically exudes vitality. The parts all function, the body is rust-free, and the paint is slick and shiny. You don’t need to do a thing to make it run efficiently – just hop in.

For the first year or two, it’s always ready to go. It starts on the first try, and it can be pushed to top speeds. Besides needing an occasional minor adjustment, your new automobile runs like a dream.

Then, one day, reality strikes. The car begins to rust; you notice the first signs creeping up around the fender. Some cold mornings the engine barely starts. Results cannot be expected without maintenance. No longer can you rev it up and push it to the limit without feeling its age. Your car has become the victim of normal wear and tear.

Most of us avoid this whole depressing scenario by trading in our cars every few years. But we can’t do that with our bodies. Some of the parts can be replaced, but, basically, we get one body at birth and it’s ours for life.

During our carefree, youthful years, we think our bodies are going to last forever. They’ve performed well in the past so what could possibly go wrong? We pay little attention to our physical condition, forgetting that as bodies get older they need special maintenance.

As we travel more and more miles, natural deterioration is inevitable. The accumulated wear and tear is normal, but it can be managed and controlled. To counteract this natural deterioration, we must learn to take care of our bodies just as well as better than we do our cars.

I have really noticed the deterioration during the last few years and have done something about it. I feel much fitter now. This article gives very good advice.

I am not a big trade in buff. I will not buy any other vehicle except a Toyota, and nothing past a 95 model. Toyotas hold their value, are gas efficient, and are strong running vehicles. The car I am in now was bought brand new in 94. It has been in accidents and I have only ever had to replace one shock, the thermostat, and the battery terminals (due to normal wear), someone tried to steal it when my brother was using the car so the ignition and small back window was replaced, and when it was in the accident the fender and hood were replaced. The engine is original and strong. I love this car. A trade in will never happen here…Great article.

Good one. Almost read like a poetry: smooth and tidy.

Should be put under Healthmad, not under autos, though.

I think we know more about our cars than we do our bodies : )

Yes, how true. There is no trade in for the human body. So, we should all take better care of ourselves. There’s nothing like being in touch with your body.

Great article! I agree that we should take care of our bodies more than we do. I really liked your comparison between our health and our cars. Great job!

Be careful mate. Here in Sydney there is a gang of recon artists who do cars up just to look like new. These cars are in fact years old. It sounds as if you got a, “recon” (reconditioned) car.

Love cars…j
