Some characteristics of the 1983 Mercury Capri.

1983 Mercury Capri

The 1983 Mercury Capri was a fantastic car for its time. The Capri was a superb three door hatchback, meaning it has 2 main doors and a rear hatch. It was a replica of Ford’s Mustang, but made to be sold by Mercury. This year’s body was built on a spectacular “Fox” body style, the same kind on Ford Fairmont’s in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This style was very squared off in the front and rear of the car. The Capri of 1983 featured a new style: flared fenders, quarter panels, and rear back window meaning they were somewhat bulged, or bubbled. A thin stripe that ran from quarter panel to quarter panel made the car distinctive from the Ford Mustang.

The Mercury Capri was built in Dearborn, Michigan, a city close to Detroit. They came with an optional V6 or 5.0 V8. There were also some special edition Capri’s made, such as the Black Magic, White Lightning, and the Crimson Cat. Each of these had gold striping with the choice of black, white, or red base colors. Just in front of the fenders, there was a signature cat picture on both sides of the car. Interior colors were black with gold inserts in the Black Magic Edition, white inserts in the White Lightning edition, and red inserts in the Crimson Cat edition.
