Car companies are in greater competition than ever before. While some are coming out with faster and sportier cars, others car coming up with ones to save more on gas. Toyota was planning on releasing a newer version of the Celica and a new Supra. They ended up scrapping those ideas because they felt that the cars did not get enough miles per gallon and that they wouldn’t bring any profit. So they are sticking to the economic route. The Prius is a successful car, even though I believe it is not the most stylish car, it does get really good gas mileage. Everyone loves to save money. I think Toyota can afford to take a chance and make a sporty car because more and more young adults are into the car tuning scene. Customizing their cars to be unique and faster is what most young Americans enjoy doing.

      The car companies that are focusing more on sporty cars are Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Subaru. Nissan has the 350z which has a 6 cylinder, 3.5 liter engine and in January will be replaced by the 370z. The 370z will have a slightly different style and will have a 6 cylinder, 3.7 liter engine. Subaru keeps upgrading the STI and recently came out with one of the best STI’s ever produced. With more horse power and better stability, it also has a completely different look. It went from a sedan, to a hatchback. Which is still in competition with its rival, the Mitsubishi EVO, which also recently came out with a completely new design.

     Acura has stopped producing sporty cars after they discontinued the RSX and now are focusing strictly on luxurious cars. The TL is a very nice car, it is luxurious and sort of has a sporty design. All of Acuras cars are 4-doors, they don’t make any coupes. But if you are looking for a sporty car from Acura, you might want to turn to Honda (which owns Acura) because the Honda Si has taken over the sporty car section of the companies, along with the Honda S2000.
 

Honda S2000

     A great sporty car that comes in 2 or 4 door style and was ranked number 1 car in its class. It has a low price, with great power and performance. The car I am talking about is the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS. Now you might think, why can’t I just buy an older model of the Cobalt SS? But the 2008 is the best model because Chevy kicked out the Supercharger and threw in a Turbo which produces more hp. The 2008 has 265hp and has great sporty suspension. For the price, you can’t get the same quality car anywhere else.

2008 Cobalt SS/TC

    Volkswagen has come out with a GREAT sporty coupe, but it has only been released in Europe. They brought back the Scirocco. The new model is outstanding and is the best looking VW ever made. The GTI and Jetta GLI are great cars that also pack alot of power and are fast adn stylish. But the Scirocco is at a whole new level, the only down fall for Americans is that it is only sold in Europe and as of right now, it will not be brought to America.
