A cool car shouldn’t be about speed, or the size of the engine. It’s about what looks you get on the street. It’s about feeling like Steve McQueen when you arrive somewhere. It’s about looking at a car and thinking that’s cool. It might be an old crapper, or indeed a fast sports car but whatever it is, it has to be cool.

So Here’s my List:

10. Fiat 500

This little car was a huge success in post war Italy, every other small car followed in its wake. Unless your fat and bald it’s a cool car to be seen in.

9. Maserati Quattroporte

This is all about the badge, and what has become a cool brand. Even how the name trips off the tongue “Quattro-porte”. Of course this is a cool Italian word for 4 doors but hey who cares when it’s this cool.

8. Mini

No, not the new BMW one; the old one. Another revolution starter, all of the coolest people in the 60’s had one of these. Also stole the show in the ultra cool movie “The Italian Job”.

7. Jaguar E Type

The coolness just comes out of your pores when you drive this one. You need the hat and driving gloves for bonus points. Great styling, and a wonderful noise.

6. Citroen DS

Full of French weirdness, with hydraulic suspension, power steering and power brakes it was a leap forward in 1955. Oh it also had the indicator switches on the dashboard. Not many of these left now, so coolness just got harder to get.

5. Bugatti Veyron

Half way through and we get to modern cool. OK it’s over the top but who in the world wouldn’t want to be seen in one? Great styling comes with a hefty price and they are on back order now, you might be able to order one for 2030.

4. Ford GT

Either the new one or the old one, they are both very cool. OK so Clarkson has one but that just makes it a little bit cooler. Proper muscle at an affordable price.

3. Aston Martin DB9

OK so there’s a new Aston every 15 minutes or so, but this car made the brand ultra cool again. This car nearly made number one slot but there’s too many in the range that’s styled just like it now. As a singular car it’s fantastic.

2. Alfa Spider

So it will break down when there’s a y in the day, the roof will leak and the battery will be flat whenever you want to use it. Even so, you will feel like a top movie star when you arrive anywhere.

1 Pagani Zonda

This going to annoy some of you, as supercars don’t tend to be cool. But the Zonda presses all the right buttons. It’s the kind of car that young lads who’s voice hasn’t broke yet will have on their wall, but it’s also the kind of car that will pick up the ladies. Plus it has that exhaust sticking out of the back. The coolness award goes to the car that’s most outlandish, ladies and gentlemen I give you the Zonda!
