Do you know how many bills are there in total and who keeps a record of all these bills? Read on to know more.
There are a lot of dead U.S. presidents roaming the world, but don’t worry Uncle Sam is keeping track. While we spend away, the Treasury Department keeps tabs on the amount of US currency in circulation. Those government money counters compile a report each month using information from the Treasury, U.S. Mint, Federal Reserve Banks and the Federal Reserve Board. So how many of each bill is out there?

- $1,000 Bill 165,444 in circulation. This note features Grover Cleveland, the only president with two in-consecutive terms. The value of all the bills in circulation is $165,444,000.
- $500 Bill 284,288 in circulation. William McKinley, the 25th president, graces this note. There are still 284,288 bills in circulation with a total value of $142,144,000.
- $2 Bill 736,116,909 in circulation. You may not see them often but there are some 802 million bills in circulation. With president No. 3, Thomas Jefferson, a notorious spend thrift, on the front, and the signing of the Declaration of Independence on the back, the design is distinctly different. The front’s design dates back to 1929, the back’s 1976. The total value of bills in circulation is $1,472,233,818.
- $50 Bill 1,259,350,007 in circulation. President Ulysses S. Grant is on the front side and the US Capitol building is on the back. The total value of $50 bills in circulation is $62,967,500,350 according to the US Treasury.

- $100 Bill 5,692,248,601 in circulation. The note features the other, non president, Ben Franklin, on its front, is the $100 bill. It has the highest total value of any denomination $569,224,860,100.
- $20 Bill 6,088,154,763 in circulation. With over 6 billion bills in circulation, the total value is $121,763,095,260. Andrew Jackson, an opponent of the central bank system, graces the front. The White House is on the back. The $20 bill is the primary note dispensed by ATM machines.
- $1 Bill 9,159,020,972 in circulation. The lowest denomination is also the most common. With over 9 billion in circulation, the George Washington bills are everywhere. The note is also one of the most interesting: The first president, the great seal and the bald eagle are the most obvious items, but the Masonic imagery and hidden figures (such as the small owl behind the numeral one in the upper right corner) distinguish the lowly, yet widespread $1 bill.
