How to Care for Your Stamp Collection
Stamps are small and fragile piece of paper that needs extra care while preserving them for a long time.
The first and the foremost step is to carefully mount the stamps in an album which is the right size and quality.
Here are the following tips that are essential for taking care of the stamps:
- Use stamp tongs while picking up the stamps instead of hands to prevent stamps from being soiled.
- Keep away the stamp album from excessive heat and humidity.
- Use a large album in the beginning so that you don’t have to transfer the stamps to another album later on.
- Hinges must be used with extra care for mint stamp with original gum.
- Covers should be mounted with the mounting corners available in the stores.
- Albums should be stored in an upright position so that the stamps are not under any pressure.
- Avoid eating and drinking near the stamps.
- Avoid the use of ball point pens near the stamps.
- Do not lay the stamps in a breezy area.
- Always use a common sense eg. if you have pets at home keep the stamps away from pets.
- Keep away the stamps from kids and small children.
- Open the stamps album from time to time to check if they are not getting stick.
