I have been in the metal detecting hobby for over 20 years now and it’s been a very rewarding hobby for me. I own several metal detectors and my favorite is a Whites MXT for land and White’s Beach Hunter I.D. for in the water.  When I was a kid in boy scouts I use to dream about finding treasure with one after reading the adds in Boys Life on metal detectors but never was able to acquire one until a friend of mine stopped over around 1986 and he asked if he could hunt my front yard for coins.  I said sure go for it, well the first coin that he dug was a silver mercury dime, I was amazed having been a coin collector since I was a kid and always never paying more than face value for a coin this hobby looked like it was made for me. About 2 years later I acquired the same detector that found the mercury dime in my front yard and I’ve been hooked ever since.  Not only does this hobby pay for itself it’s also a good way to keep the pounds down and a whole lot of fun doing it.  One of the reason’s I use Whites metal detectors is they are fantastic performers and completely made in Sweet Home Oregon (USA) and I’m a firm believer in buy made in America products when possible.
