10 Steps to Make Paper at Home

10 Steps to Make Paper at Home

Is it difficult to make paper at home?

As we know, paper is made from wood. Nevertheless, after industrialization, the demand on paper increases. As a result, we should decrease the use of paper, but how? This summer vacation, you can try to reuse the newspaper by changing it into a new sheet of paper. Is it difficult? No. What you have to do is to follow the steps.

To make a sheet of paper, you should have the following things first:

1 X Wooden frame
1 X Sieve with holes of about 1 mm (available in a hardware store)
2 X Formica sheets
1 X Large Container can fit the frame
1 X Mortar with Pestle
1 X Jug
1 X hairdryer ( If you do not, you can use sunlight instead but it will take a longer time!)
1 X Newspaper
1 X Flat sponge
1 X Water

  Procedures:

1. Mount the sieve underneath, with strips of wood and nails enclosing the wooden frame.

2. Soak some of the newspaper in water. Squeeze out the excess water.

3. Use the mortar and pestle, crush a little bit of paper at a time until it becomes a paste. Repeat this procedure until you have enough paste.

4. Fill the container halfway with water and put the paste in the container and stir it to separate the fibers.

5. Immerse the frame in the watery suspension in the container.

6. Slowly remove the frame from the suspension keeping it steadily horizontal.

7. Eventually move the frame to even out the layer of fibers. Wait for the water to drain.

8. Place Formica paper on top of the layer of fiber extracted and squeeze out the excess water, without putting too much force on the sieve.

9. Remove the Formica paper and the sheet of paper gently, which will be soaked with water again.

10. Drying of the sheet with a hairdryer(or under sunlight), a new sheet of paper produced.

Try to do it this summer, or you may find it is interesting!
