10 Ways to Update or Upcycle Your Old Jeans
Have fun and be creative with these ideas.
BLEACH:
Make sure you are wearing gloves because bleach can burn!
You can do this using a table (covered in plastic) or outside using a clothesline. You can use a squirt bottle, sponge, paintbrush, or the bleach cap and just start putting the bleach on your jeans (remember bleach does spread so don’t use a lot). Let sit for 5 minutes (no more then 5 minutes because bleach can eat through fabric) then wash in washer by their selves. If your like me you want to bleach more then 1 pair at a time to do this fill your washing machine up with water and bleach 1 pair of jeans at a time. After bleach has set submerge fully in washer and then move on to the next pair. I sagest doing no more then 5 pair at a time.
RIP:
Put holes in your jeans just like you see in magazines for cheaper. You can do this by using sandpaper or a cheese grater. Lay your jeans on a hard surface place something hard between the legs (like a hardback book) then use the sandpaper and sand at the fabric until you get the desired size hole. I sagest no more then 3-7 holes because you don’t want it to be tacky.
Tip: Most schools will not let you wear jeans with holes to school but for those that do make sure holes are in appropriate places.
SKIRT:
You can turn an old pair of jeans into a skirt by cutting out the inseam and then cutting jeans to the desired length. Place fabric (you can use what is left over from the jeans for this) where the inseam used to be and sew it on.
SHORTS:
This is simple just cut the legs down to the desired length.
Tip: Frey the bottom to make them look cooler.
CROTCH PATCHES:
Funny name I know but have you ever had a pair of jeans that you love so much you wore them until you got holes in the crotch so you had to throw them away? Well a simple solution to that is just sew different kinds of fabric behind the holes.
Tip: Cut a few holes in other places and sew on more fabric to make it look like you bought them that way.
PURSE:
Cut jeans to desired length. Turn inside out and sew shut. Using left over jeans cut a handle and sew to purse.
EMBELISH:
Use jewels, string, fabric, and ect.. to add pictures, words, and ect.. to your jeans.
POCKET ORGANIZER:
I used several air of jeans that no longer fit and cut out 5×5 squares sewed them together and then using back pockets I sewed them 1 on each square to create an wall organizer to hold pencils, hair bows, change, and ect… You can make it as long or as wide as you want.
Tip: You can use different fabrics to create the 5×5 squares.
CORSET LACE:
Cut up the side of your jeans the desired length and then make even spaced holes parallel to each other on both sides of the cut. Then use ribbon to lace through the holes.
Tip: You can just make holes up the whole side or up the front to make a corset lace. You can also do this on the back pockets.
COMBINE:
Combine 1 or more of these things to get a 1 of a kind look. Be creative and let your wild side out.
