Crunch Stitch Washcloth
A thick, durable, easy-to-make washcloth that incorporates the crunch stitch.
I love making washcloths, and they’re so useful to have around the house. This pattern creates a durable and thick washcloth that still looks attractive. You will need cotton yarn like Peaches ‘n’ Creme or Lily Sugar ‘n’ Cream and a J hook.
Ch 37 (I make my washcloths big because I have found that cotton yarn tends to shrink after I wash it. You can make it smaller, so long as your starting chain is a multiple of 2 stitches, and you should add one for the starting chain.)
Row 1 – Skip 2 ch (this counts as your first hdc). *Sl st into the next ch. Make 1 hdc in the next ch. Repeat from * across. You will end with a sl st in the last ch.
Row 2 – Ch 2 (counts as first hdc). Skip 1 stitch and * sl st into the next hdc. Make a hdc into the next sl st. Repeat from * across. Your row will end on a sl st in the top of your turning ch.
Repeat row 2 for 16 rows or as many as you prefer to make your washcloth into a square/rectangle.
You may also use an I hook for this pattern to make it tighter. Check your gauge when you do so.
