Digital Scrapbooking: The Hobby and the Writer

Digital Scrapbooking: The Hobby and the Writer

Digital Scrapbooking is a growing Internet hobby, but it can be valuable to the writer too.

Digital Scrapbooking is very popular on the internet. Community groups all share their creations, they have competitions, swap tips and give away layouts. Graphics cover every topic and it is popular with the male species as much as the ladies.

The software varies, there are programs just for scrapbooking such as ScrapBook Flair their free download is here or there are photographic software programs such as Adobe Photoshop Elements, there is a free trial download that can be used to try for 30 days here.

An image saved using a low resolution can be improved or changed using photographic adjusting programs.

There is no glue or glitter involved and you can email your end result within minutes of finishing, sharing with family and friends all over the world.

The two types of scrapbooking compliment each other, for example you can prepare and print out a digital scrap page and then add embellishments afterwards or you can do a stick and glue style page, scan it into your software and add digital graphics to the uploaded scan.

Transparancy style backgrounds can be used to change the style of a project.

There are graphic collections to buy kits for your chosen software an example of a store to buy from is Cen’s Stuff, June Schutrups is a digital designer and scrapbooker, she also has many ‘freebies’ and digiscrapbooking tutorials to help the new or experienced scrapper. Some designers do not allow you to mix their work with others and some do not allow them for commercial use, always read the rules that come with the downloads as you do not want to get caught up in a legal wrangle.

Digital Scrapbooking and the Writer:

Scrapbook programs can be used by the writer to enhance and build upon a small piece of written work that might otherwise just be considered too insignificant on its own,a photograph can be enhanced with journaling using various fonts, choose a background, text a passage, add a photograph and layer with graphics and frames.

If you are stuck for an image for an article, you can design your own using your photographs you consider too poor to submit alone, you can add graphics and enhance not only the photograph but your written work as well, again if you are submitting your work for financial reward on a site such as Triond, make sure you can use the graphic imaging for commercial use.

Have fun and Happy Scrapping.

NOw this is more up my alley. I have never been one for cutting things out, gluing and all of the other stuff that goes along with scrapbooking, but I could handle this!!

A great piece and so full of information! Your right digital scrapbooking is fun and involves no large stashes of stuff…but it mixes well with traditional scrap booking producing a great hybrid scrap.
A wonderful clear article that I am sure will inspire!

I don’t think I could scrapbook in the real world, but digitally? I might be able to pull that off!

Great info! I am more the old fashioned scrapbooking type…love to get my hands messy! However, I am in full agreement that both digital and traditional scrapbooking can be used hand in hand to make some wonderful creations!

I agree with Leanne. You always have so much fun. I wish I could be even half as light spirited as you are, Glynis. This was great… mind if I place an excerpt of it on my blog with your byline and link? :)
