Fairy Houses
I made my first Fairy House out of a handful of flat smooth stones. Once it was build, it just fit in the palm of my hand. I then sold it on e-Bay and didn’t really expect much. I started the bidding at a measly $1.99. It made it all the way up to $8.50. I knew as I watched the bidding go up, that I had to make another one. That was back in 1998. I have been a little obsessed with making them ever since.
When I first started making and selling Fairy Houses, it was like I was the only one doing them. Now when I do a search for Fairy Houses, I can easily find several people making them.
I’ve learned a lot about building crafts since that first Fairy House. One thing I found out early was that hot gun glue does not hold crystals and polished stones. I tend to use them a lot. Super glue does not hold to crystals. I went through several glues before I settled on Goop. There are problems with that glue also, but since it holds to everything I have used it on, I can over look the problems.
Since I got my mind on Fairies, I started making other things besides the houses. I came up with a Fairy Dance Centerpiece. The first one I made was from a broken wine glass. The bell was broken and I cut it off, leaving just the stem. I then put a very pretty crystal point on there and covered up where they connected by wrapping gold thread around it. It took me less than an hour and probably only 50 cents to make. I didn’t expect much. So to help out, I wrote out this. Place your Fairy Dance Centerpiece on a cleared off table before going to bed. While you are sleeping the fairies will come and dance around the centerpiece. Remember, where fairies gather so does Hope, Love, Care, Good Health and other positive spells and magic. Many people believe that Fairies are a form of Angel.
I also started it at $1.99. The bidding took it all the way up to $19. I immediately made more from anything I could find. I always topped them with crystal points.
Since I live in Arkansas, I can go dig up my own crystals. If you come to Arkansas, you have got to go over to the Hot Springs area. They have crystal mines over there, where you can go dig. Be sure to wear clothes that you don’t mind ruining. Crystals are always found in red clay and that stuff is very hard to get out of your clothes.
Lately I have been making Fairy Gazebo’s. I’ve been getting over $200 for each of them. My most recent is a Seaside Fairy Gazebo with a swing made from seashells. The gazebo is made of sand and the top is sea shells.

I am currently working on a Fairy House and I am building it completely different. This time I used sticks to make the frame and the frame is not nice and straight like a home we live in. I let the sticks help shape the house. I’m using small gravel sand to build the walls. In the walls you will find a few crystals, slag glass chips, colored glass globs and smooth river wash stones. I’m still not certain what I will use for the roof and the door.
Don’t forget that June 24th is Fairy Day. Please take the time to do something for your Fairies.
