Here, I’ll teach you how to fold a beautiful lotus flower. Have a go; all you need is some sheets of colored papers, a little patience and practice.
Things you need

In this project, you need 8 sheets of gold papers with a measurement of 12cm in length and 6cm in width. And also 4 sheets of green papers with the similar size.
Step 1

Place a sheet of gold paper on any flat surface.
Step 2
From step 1, fold the paper in half lengthways.
Step 3

Unfold the paper. Fold in the lower left corner.

Now, fold the upper left corner.

Next, repeat steps as shown in the first and second photos for the rest of the corners.
Step 4

Make a fold inwards on both sides.
Step 5

From step 4 (second photo), make a mountain fold by folding it back like this. Now, stand the paper on the table. It should look like a small hill.

Lay the paper on the table. It should look like a trapezium shape. Flatten the paper and run your thumbnail along the paper to mark it well.
Step 6

Prepare a sheet of green paper. Repeat steps 2-4.
Step 7

Next, make a valley fold by folding it in front.

Repeat steps 1-5 for another 7 gold papers. Then, repeat steps 6-7 for the other 3 more green papers. Once done, you should have 8 gold papers and 4 green papers.
Step 8

From step 7 (second photo), stand one green paper with its opening facing down. Your paper should appear in this manner.

Next, take one gold paper and top up to the green paper (the first photo).

Top up another gold paper onto it (the second photo).

Lay the papers down, and you should have two layers of gold paper (the first and second layers viewing from the top) and the base layer, the green folded paper.

Repeat steps as shown in photos 1-4 for the rest of the folded papers. Stand all of them with their layouts look as though in the above photo. You should get four of them.
Step 9

Align these four group of papers (from step 8, the last photo) in sequence. Put a heavy object (such as a hole punch in this project) on top of them.

Put away the hole punch, align their edges perfectly and fold them in half. Put the hole punch again on top of them and press them gently.
Step 10

Put away the hole punch and they should appear in this manner, a hill-looking shape.

Measure a string, about 7-8 cm in length.
Step 11

Hold the papers (from step 10, first photo) in the middle, and tie them with a string. Make a few turnings of string around them before tying, so that they can be held firmly. Once completed, you can see four strips in both sides separating by a tie in the middle. Or, all together, you’ve 8 strips of them.
Step 12

From step 11, adjust the distance among the papers, so that they look as shown in the above photo.
Step 13

Gently lift up the top layer of one of the gold papers using your fingers.

Again, gently bring the layer further up, so that it appears neat and smooth.
Step 14

Repeat step 13 to lift up the other alternate gold papers, meaning that you skip one of them. So, the folding sequence is 1,3,5 and 7 but skip 2,4, 6 and 8 at the first hand.

With the similar manner, continue folding 2, 4, 6 and 8 upwards (or those you skipped just now) for the top layer of the gold papers.
Step 15

Repeat step 14 as shown in the first photo for the second layer of all the gold papers.
Step 16

Repeat step 14 as shown in the second photo for the second layer of the gold paper. Do the same for the rest of them. Once completed, your lotus flower should appear as though the above photo.
Step 17

Gently lift the last layer (the green paper) slightly upwards.

Repeat the same as shown in the first photo for the rest of them. Press a bit inwards in their middle so that they look nice or just as natural as the green leaves.

Congratulation! Your beautiful lotus flower is ready!
Happy folding and good luck!
