- Embroidery floss or craft thread (at least 2 colors)
- scissors
- Measuring tape
- clipboard/tape/safety pin (something to secure the thread to while you make the bracelet)
The Four Basic Knots

- The Forward Knot
-To Create this knot you take the string most to the left and put it over the string next to it (creating a four shape) then put it under the string and then pull it through the hole you have created. Repeat this step again, and then move on to the other strings. - The Backward Knot
-This is just the reverse of the forward knot. You take the string most to the right and make a backward “four” over the string next to it. Repeat again. Note you’ll always want to do these two kinds twice. - The Forward Backward Knot
-This one is pretty self explanatory. Basically, you just do one forward knot and one backward knot (on the same string). - The Backward Forward knot
-As well this one is not too complicated, just do one backward knot, and then one forward knot.
Any kind of weaved bracelet can be made by using one, or a mixture of all of the basic knots.

This is one of the easiest bracelets to make because you only have to deal with the forward knot through the whole process.
- Choose 2 or more colors of embroidery thread to use
- Cut 1 strings of each color, around 48 inches depending on the size of the wrist of the person you are making the bracelet for
- Gather all the strings so that the ends are equal and fold in half. On the end with the fold, make a loop and tie it off.
- Next, find a way to secure the bracelet so making it will go smoothly. I usually use tape on a hard surface (like a table). Putting it under the clip on a clipboard works, as does putting a safety pin through the loop and pinning it to your jeans.
- Now, separate the colors in whichever order you like
- Once you have done that, take the first string of the first color (most to the left) and make a forward knot. Continue using that first string and making forward knots all the way till you get to the last string (most to the right)
- Continue with the second string of the first color and go all the way through. Then, move on to the first string of the next color, and so on.
- Continue with the process until you get the length you want
- To finish it off, all you need to do is make another knot so your work won’t come undone
Hope you enjoy this how to, and come back for more soon! Next I will show how to make the braided friendship bracelet, and the arrow/chevron bracelet.

Excellent ‘how-to’ article, I’m not sure I’d be as good at it as you though!

A great article. My children at school used to make friendship bracelets, though they were simpler than yours. If I had seen this article then I would have shown them how to make them properly. Good work.
