Matching Babies Pillow
Materials:
6 -10×6 pieces of Fabric
Cotton/Polyester Filling
Thread to match fabric
Step 1. Sew pieces together to make each side of pillow.Sew together 3 pieces of desired fabric pieces, to make one side. Then sew together the other 3 pieces to make the other side. Make sure to sew pattern sides together, then iron flat at the stitch.
Step 2. Sew pillow sides together.Place the two sides together ( pattern sides together.) Sew all the way around leaving a 4 to 5 inch opening.
Step 3. Turn right side out.Through the opening, put your hand in and grab the outer most corner. Pull the corner out along with the rest of the fabric until the pillow is right side out. Iron flat.
Step 4. Sew in a 2.5 inch. border.Use chalk or a washable pencil to mark 2.5 inches all the way around the edges of the pillow. You’re going to leave the opening open, do not sew this part shut! Sew along your markings, 2.5 inches, making the border.
Step 5. Add the filler.Add as much filler as you think is good. (I like stuffed animal squishy.)
Step 6. Sew the openings closed. Sew the border in first. (You may hand sew or use the machine.) Make sure all of the filling is out of the way before you start sewing in the border.Last you will close up the pillow. Make sure to fold the edges in before sewing. (You may use the machine or hand sew.)
What a beautiful pillow!
Babies Blanket with Ruffle
Please read and have a basic understanding of the directions before you get started!
Materials:
* 3 Yards of fabric (fabrics come in different widths, keep this in mind when you choose your fabric. The larger the width size the larger the blanket will turn out. 1 yd. Front, 1 yd. Back, 1 yd Ruffle
* 1 yd Batting (choose batting thickness of your choice, if fabric is thick you may not want to use it)
Thread to match fabric
Step 1. Cut your fabrics and batting. 1 yard for the front, 1 yard for the back, 1 yard of batting to match the size of the fabrics
The ruffle a little harder to do! Measure 6 in. wide for the ruffle strips. Cut as many as you can from the yard that you have.Sew all the strip ends together (pattern sides together!) making one long strip! Iron the strip in half, lengthwise. So that the ruffle is now 3 in. wide with the pattern side showing on both sides. Great!
Step 2. Sew on the ruffle!Choose one of the blanket sides to sew the ruffle onto.
This part is very important! Sew the ruffle – bottom side (the side without the fold) – onto the Pattern Side of the Blanket Fabric. Sew the ruffle all the way around the blanket. Make sure you gather the material as you sew! This is what gives it the ruffle look. You can do this a few different ways. Here are a few different ways to create the folds in the ruffle.1. pin a fold in the ruffle every in. or two in. and sew over the fold2. as you sew push the fabric under the needle to create folds, sew over the folds. Make sure you don’t create too many folds or you will go through too much fabric and end up needing more to finish the blanket.
Step 3. Put the pieces together and pin.Very Important!1. Place the two blanket sides together with the patterns facing each other. The ruffle should be laying flat between them.2. Lay the batting on top.3. Pin together for sewing. Should be, blanket side with ruffle on bottom facing up. Blanket side without ruffle facing down. Batting on top. Make sure your fabrics are in order or it won’t turn out right when you turn the blanket right side out.
Step 4. Sew all the pieces together! Sew around the entire blanket, leaving 6 in. to 8 in. un-sewn. I like to choose a spot in the middle of one of the sides. Since you will sew this by hand once the blanket has been turned. Make sure to pull out every pin !
Step 5. Turn right side out.Through the part you left un-sewn, put your hand in between the two pieces if fabrics. Grab the furthest corner and pull out, keep pulling until the blanket is right side out.
Step 6. Sew the part left un-sewn make sure you turn the edge without the ruffle under when you sew this part together! You can sew this by hand or with the sewing machine. All done!
Babies Blanket with Border
Please read and have a basic understanding of the directions before you get started!
Materials:
*2 Yards of fabric (fabrics come in different widths, keep this in mind when you choose your fabric.
The larger the width size the larger the blanket will turn out.)
-1 yd. Front, 1 yd. Back
*1 yd Batting (choose batting thickness of your choice, if fabric is thick you may not want to use it)
*4yds of bias tape (border fabric)
*Thread to match fabric
Step 1. Cut your fabrics and batting.
1 yard for the front, 1 yard for the back, 1 yard of batting to match the size of the fabrics
Step 2. Put the pieces together and pin.
Place one blanket side, pattern side down. Place batting on top of this piece. Then place other side of blanket piece on top. Pattern side up. (should be just as you would like to see it sewn).
Pin sides and corners together
Step 3. Sew all the pieces together!
Sew around the entire blanket.
Step 4. Sew on the border.
If you’ve chosen the bias tape it’s already ironed out for you. Make sure you have enough before you start sewing! (you may also make your own border with fabric, just iron in the sides.).
1. This may be confusing! Place the bias on the blanket at the middle fold ( the way it will eventually be sewn on). Pin the folded short side down where it is. (You will use this as your guide around the entire blanket). Pull the bias down, away from the edge of the blanket, so that your looking at the wrong side of the bias and the small fold with the pin.
2. Your going to sew at the small fold around the entire blanket. Make sure you measured right at the beginning and the bias will flip over and fit the edge of the blanket over to the other side. Take your time with this part. Pin the bias to the blanket before sewing, making sure the measurements are right.
3. Once the bias is sewn on, flip it up and around to the other side of the blanket. Now your going to sew the bias down at the edge of the fold ( fold side in!) with the zig zag stitch ( could also be a straight stitch if you prefer that). Make sure you are getting the fold on the other side as well (so they match). Careful at the corners. This takes a few tries as well. Just push the bulk in and iron flat then sew around the edges of the bias. I like to put a few stitches on the corner fold so that its more secure. You’re done!
