Pumpkin Carving Tips and Ideas
This little guide I made up for Halloween will teach you how to pick the best pumpkin and how to carve it so it looks great.
Choosing the Right Pumpkin
To get the best pumpkin you should go to a pumpkin patch. And you should get it about as close to Halloween as you can get it because they don’t last very long. When you get to the pumpkin patch you want to get a pumpkin with a flat bottom and a tall stem. Also try to avoid any pumpkins with cracks, bruises or broken stems.
Pumpkin Carving Tips
First draw a picture o the design you want to make on your pumpkin using pencil or markers. Use a sharp, straight-edged knife to carve the top out and make a lid for you to put a candle in. You want to cut at an inward angle so that why later on the lid won’t fall into the pumpkin. Always make sure to cut away from yourself and cut with a slow steady motion so that way you lessen the chance of yourself getting hurt. Now comes the fun part. Once you make the lid use a solid spoon, an ice cream scooper or my favorite your hands to get the seeds and stringy parts of the pumpkin out. It’s easiest if you carve the nose first then the eyes and mouth. Once you have it all carved you want to make a flat spot on the inside bottom part of the pumpkin so that way when you put the candle in it doesn’t tip over then you have a flaming jack-o-lantern. (But wouldn’t that be cool?) Then once you have the bottom flat place your candle in the pumpkin and using a match light the candle.
Please use adult supervision for the whole process of carving a pumpkin so no one gets hurt.
