The Genius of China: Paper Making

Paper making is another important invention in China other than Printing. If you want to explore more about China, I will suggest you to read it…

The origin of paper making can be traced back to the Ancient China — Han Dynasty. The paper maker, Tsai Lun, created the first sheet of paper in China by using fibers and mulberry. Paper started to become a writing medium by the 3rd century. This new technology spread to European countries through the Islamic countries.

In fact, paper making can be said that it greatly contributed to the civilizations and also improve our life. People were commonly engraving their words on metals, bones, trees, or shell. But from then on, as the China has a long, long history, it is impossible to save the shells, or metals in the palace. And this splendid invention can make our life more efficiently. In the 6th century, toilet paper was invented. During the Tang Dynasty, paper was used to make bags to preserve the flavor of tea. Later in the Song Dynasty, paper-printed money was issued by the Song government. Isn’t it amazing?

Due to the industrialization in Europe, the modern paper making skills were developed. People can produce very long rolls of paper. Until the 21th century, paper can have different sizes, color and texture. And we started to realize that the wood in the Earth is decreasing in every hour, every minute and in every second. We have stared to reuse them, but how?

We started to form recycled paper. We will use chemical methods to break the hydrogen bonds in the paper and to form a new sheet of paper. Since it is 100% a recycled papers, so they won’t be as strong or as bright as the paper made originally. As the problem of cutting down the trees is still very serious, we may have new invention in the future. What do you think? In fact, it is a plastic paper. It is biodegradable and they can recycle with the ordinary paper.

Nevertheless, other then making this new kind of environmentally friendly paper, you should always remind the 4R principle in order to save the Earth!
