The Hobbits

The Hobbits

Four adorable knit characters based on The Lord of the Rings movies. My favourite movie and my favourite characters rolled up into one, well, four actually.

I made these knitted/crocheted toys for my four children a few years ago.  We all loved the movie The Lord of the Rings and I love to make toys for them, so I thought to myself, why not combine the two?  These dolls are what I came up with.  They are each about seven to eight inches tall, made of acrylic yarn and stuffed with polyester fiberfill.  They each come with a travelling cloak and three of them, Frodo, Sam, and Merry each have a crocheted vest that can be removed.  Pippin does not have a vest, but a scarf instead, as that is the way the characters were portrayed in the movies.  I am now working on the last hobbit of the movies, Bilbo Baggins and when I have him finished, I hope to be able to share him with you as well.

When one of my sons was small he used to be afraid to sleep on his own because he heard a sound outside of his bedroom window one night and thought that someone was trying to get in.  I gave him the Frodo doll and told him that he would keep him safe during the night and not to worry.  He was very happy about that and drifted off to sleep in no time.  It made me feel very proud that one of the toys that I had made was able to soothe him that much.  Sam is actually my son’s favourite character in the movie, but he chose the Frodo toy for his own.  I think it might be because Frodo is my favourite of the hobbits.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them.  Stop by my blog (http://jedopi3bagswool.blogspot.com) to check out more toys that I have made.

Nice, have you tried selling them online?

No, I have not tried selling them online. I did think about it at one time but I am not too familiar with doing that type of thing. I’m not sure whether I would be allowed to as they are probably copyrighted characters or something like that. If you have any advice, I’d love to hear it.
