10 Must-try Exotic Fruits

Some more healthy and delicious fruits that you absolutely must try if you ever have the chance, and here’s what I have on the menu for you.

Durian

Durian is a unique tropical fruit and is called “Asia’s King of Fruits”. Durian is infamous for its strong and overpowering smell and a unique taste–the aroma is like aged wine, to others, it smells like a sticky socks. Some people love it because they believe that this fruit has has a magical power to keep them young and look young, and some people hate it and misjudging this fruit unfairly because of the distinctive and its strange smell. This fruit can weight up to 3 kilograms and grow up to 12 inches long. Thailand and Philippines are the top exporter of durian.

Langsat

Langsat is native to Western Malaysia but it has spread and become a relatively popular fruit in the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and India. An egg-shaped khaki colored fruit, is also known as lansones, lanzones, langesh, lanzon, lansa lanzone and a lot more. The taste of this white, firm, translucent and juicy flesh can range from incredibly sweet to unbearably sour, the seeds seeds are highly distasteful and wickedly bitter.

Sugar Apple 

Sugar Apple is one of the Thailand’s popular fruits, it is a soft, creamy with flesh fruit that covered by a lumpy green crust. The fruit is easily broken into two halves, the taste is incredibly sweet often having a minty or custardy flavor and it has a lot of seeds. In 1590, the Spaniards has introduced the sugar apple and probably carried seeds to the Philippines.

Guava

Guava is one of the most gregarious fruit tress and referred as a super-fruit because it contains of vitamins A, C, dietary fibers and Omega 3. This fruits is very aromatic with a penetrating and pungent odor, it has lots of small seeds but you can eat them. It’s originated to Central America in Mexico and very popular to Philippines.

Dragon Fruit

Dragon fruit is also called “Queen of the Night” because it blooms in the middle of the night. This fruit is a native of America, one of the most beautiful fruits and is actually the fruit of a large cactus plants. It can be up to six inches long, with bright red color, thick leathery skin with interesting “fire-y and scale-y” that resembles the feature of a dragon. Dragon fruit has three varieties: yellow flesh, white flesh and the popular red flesh, all of the 3 varieties are very juicy, nutritious, containing dietary fiber and minerals, rich in vitamin C and a white version of kiwi with high water content. Should you prefer to take it as a dragon fruit shake and a cool drinks, the flowers can be eaten as salad or vegetable. Some scientist used the flower in producing care products and perfumes.

Rambutan

Rambutan is such a wonderful, nutritious and delicious fruit, it taste like a lychee which is in the same botanical family and a native of Malaysia. People outside of its native range considered the rambutan as an exotic fruit. The fruit is distinguished by its spectacular “hairy” appearance and is either bright red with a mixture of yellow and green, but inside of it is a pearly white fruit with incredibly sweetness.

Lamut

Lamut is one of the most desirable and interesting of all tropical fruits, originates from Mexico but it was also introduced in the Philippines. It’s round to egg-shape with brown color, looks like potatoes and taste like a cotton candy or caramel. Lamut is extremely juicy, they are incredibly tasty when ripe with granular texture.

Santol

Santol are some popular fruits in the Philippines which kids love to eat, but it is native to Malaysia. Santol has a very sweet flavor that’s why some people used to make it as a marmalade, and it has an extremely unpalatable and astringent when the fruit is unripe. It’s a round fruit with 3 or 4 seeds, yellow color about the size of orange.

Sweet Tamarind

The Sweet Tamarind is a dark brown poddy fruit that that grows pretty much all over Thailand and one of their signature fruits and one of the minor fruit crops in the Philippines. The shells of tamarind fruit are brittle and easily broken and the pulp is like a sticky paste when fully ripe.

Rose Apple

Rose Apple is one of the most exotic and interesting fruits because it tastes and smells a lot like rose water. It is native to Southeast Asia. The skin is waxy and thin while the pear-shaped fruits are crunchy, crispy with a very delicious fresh flavor.

I do not eat durian, but I love its candy version though. Love Lanzones, makopa, rambutan, and guava. Kaya lang, di ba iba yong guyabano sa dragonfruit? I believe, guyabano is colored green and i love it too. Great article.

I have had the fruit Rambutan. its nice that is if u like astringent type of fruits like lychee etc. we all love it. hope we get more exotic fruits like dragon fruit lambut langsat durian etc.
