The Good Honeydew Melon

Honeydew melons are grown in California, Arizona, Texas, and Mexico. In one cup of honeydew it contains: Fat 0g, Cholesterol 0g, Protein 1g, Water 158g, Calories 64, Carbohydrates 16g, Fiber 1.4g, Calcium 11mg, Iron 0.30mg, Magnesium 18mg, Phosphorus 19mg, Sodium 32mg, Potassium 404mg, Vitamin K 5.1mcg, beta-carotene 53mcg, and folate 34mcg. Honeydews also contain vitamin A and C, calcium and iron.
Honeydew melons are sweet to taste. The inside of the honeydew melon is pale green in color, the skin is yellow to green. When ripe the honeydew melon is the sweetest of all melons. The flesh of the honeydew is very simular to the cantaloupe. In Chile, an orange flesh variety is grown. It is shipped in the winter months. It is slightly oval. Fresh cut honeydew melons absorb ordors.
There are different varieties of the melon and one is called the winter melon. Honeydew is available in the United states year around. During the months it is not available here it is imported from Chile. From June to October Honeydews peak season is here. Recently I purchased a honeydew melon and the sticker on it said product of Mexico. Honeydews are delicious with lime juice. They are usually chilled and eaten fresh.

I love when the spring and summer months role around and fresh fruit and veggies are available!

This is one tastey fruit to keep around all summer long. Mix this in a fruit sald with catalope and watermelon and it will be a great fruit salad. Love it!!
