The Incredible Legacy of Garlic

The Incredible Legacy of Garlic

Garlic, though not a friendly supplement, has so many health benefits; if everyone took it nobody would notice the odor!

No one has a clue to just how powerful garlic is, unless your like me and have researched and put into practice some of the things I have read about; I was totally surprised by what I learned.

Downtown Gilroy

I learned that Gilroy, California provides us with a large percentage of garlic, and since 1979 it has been the number one harvesting state in the country.  Garlic goes way back, to the Egyptians who ate it and also gave it to their slaves to make sure they remained just as healthy; which guaranteed their work would get done and they would be alive for a long time. During Wars that have been fought, the soldiers carried garlic, so if and when a soldier was injured during combat it was smashed and made into a paste then mix it with water, this was poured directly over the injury, to avoid infections and gangrene. If water was not available or the infection seemed very serious, then the paste was applied directly to the wound and then covered, where then they would hope and pray. During one of the World Wars, it became known as “Russians Antibiotic”, for this very reason. In small towns and in places where there were known “White Witches” or “The Medicine Man”; oil made from garlic was placed in ones ear when a ear infection was suspected. So you see garlic has been around for ages, and it still has those magnificent properties, but the difference now is there is scientific proof that these remedies actually work.

Today we are finding that garlic, whether taken as a pill, eaten raw or stir fried to take some of the harshness out; garlic is still helping to keep us healthy.

Research is finding that garlic can help your heart stay healthy, since there are findings that it helps to lower bad cholesterol, the LDL numbers while increasing the HDL number, the good cholesterol. By reducing an individual cholesterol numbers it helps to reduce high blood pressure. Garlic is a natural anticoagulant, which means it helps prevent blood clots from forming, which helps prevent heart attacks and strokes. Garlic oil is believed to alleviate muscle aches and cramps, when applied to the area that hurts; the only disadvantage is the odor it produces.

While there is a long way to go, and so much more to learn about garlic, taking it is moderate amounts daily can do you no harm, but keep it at a moderate level!

Onions like garlic is full alliums, they have found that a diet high in these two items helped prevent stomach cancer, along with intestinal cancers. Scientist have found out that garlic by itself is very toxic to a tumor cell, which mean that garlic helps to prevent tumors from forming.

So with all the benefits of garlic why would you not take it daily; of course it is not a very social supplement, which may be a good enough reason to take it. It is usually best taken with a meal, as for some it may be too harsh on ones stomach.

Another reason why taking garlic or even wearing garlic, as they did during the Medieval period; was if you smelled like garlic nobody will bother you, thus keeping their germs to themselves!

Very informative but I just can’t eat garlic. The taste and the smell just put me off.
