What is a Tuna?

Tuna are carnivorous fish residing in oceans and are very fast swimmers as they can swim with a speed of more than 65 kilometers per hour. The flesh of Tuna fish is pink or dark red in color compared to other fish with white flesh. Tuna is also called “rose of the sea” due to its color of flesh and the color of its flesh is due to myoglobin and oxygen molecules.

Tuna and its sub species contain warm-blooded fishes and they are able to raise their body temperature and also survive in cool waters of the ocean.
International Seafood Sustainability Foundation, ISSF has also passed several parameters and standards with respect to the canneries of Tuna fish.
Tuna fishing is one of the most popular and commercial fishing around the world and some types of Tuna fish such as bluefin has been over fished to an extent that it has now increased the risk of their extinction.
There are also several benefits of Tuna with respect to health that makes it more popular in the fishery industries.

Cat owners should be adviced that even though Tuna is in many cat foods – they should NOT have it! Also people should look for “dolphin friendly” tuna.
