Whole Milk vs. Low Fat Milk
I love whole milk because it is tastier than low-fat milk.
For toddlers over 12 months, whole milk is a better option than low-fat or skim milk because babies need calories from fat for brain development according to the AAP, in their Guide To Your Child’s Nutrition. It is essential for babies to get the right amount of nutrients in the first two years of life.
One of the advantages of whole milk over low fat milk is that whole milk taste better. It is also a good source of nutrition for those kids who don’t like to eat too much or who don’t enjoy the taste of low fat milk. However, whole milk has 150 calories and 8 grams of fat. Based on these calculations, I am drinking one a half cups of whole milk a day. In the morning, half a cup of milk with coffee and a glass of milk before going to bed. On the other hand, I don’t mind drinking the 2% milk either, which is 120 calories and 4.5 grams of fat. For those who prefer the 1% milk, it has 100 calories and 2.5 grams of fat. And skim milk, this milk definitely taste like water so I don’t recommend it unless you are really overweight and want to reduce fat from your diet. Skim milk has 80 calories and 0 grams of fat.

Let’s look at the following example. If your child switches from whole milk, which has 150 calories to 1% milk and usually drinks three cups of milk a day, he would be saving 150 calories a day. According to research, you do gain a pound for every 3500 calories you consume.
According to studies, parents should switch from whole milk to low fat milk when the child is young. If you wait till the child is older, he might become more resistant to the change. In addition, an early switch to low-fat milk helps to ensure that your child will have healthy eating habits later on in life.

I drink low fat milk. It took awhile to get use to the taste but there comes a time when you don’t notice the difference. Good article.

Interesting point you are arguing there. I love whole milk too because of the taste. But I keep healthy by excercising so it’s all good.
Good article.

You get used to the change in taste, I have been drinking semi skimmed milk for so long that I now prefer the taste to whole milk.

What do you mean by this: “However, whole milk has 150 calories and 8 grams of fat”? The QUANTITY is missing.
100 milliliters of whole milk have around 60 calories, which means a litre (1/4 of a gallon, approximately) of whole milk has around 600 calories.
The problem with milk is that it contains 2000 + residual chemicals, including hormones and what-not.
It also encourages the formation of phlegm.
Other than that, I LOVE whole milk…

Pretty Polly,
According to the findings, it said whole milk had 150 calories and 8 grams of fat. Well, thanks for the missing information. I am going to add that to the article then. I didn’t find anything other info on whole milk.

Great job on your article, marlene. I drink milk all of the time. I drink skim milk now, but I like whole milk better. It does taste better than low fat milk and skim milk.

As a vegan, I no longer use dairy products, put much prefer almond, soy and other vitamin-enriched and fortified alternatives. I am currently awaiting Triond approval on the publishing of an article “What Have They Done to Milk?” that I submitted a couple of days ago. Thanks for your opinion and input.

Hi jimbob1,
Thank you for your comments. Glad you enjoyed my articles. I am not sure why it is that some articles take longer to get published than others. I am still trying to figure that out. Sometimes I write something and in seconds it is published while other times it takes a few days. Maybe triond community is sleeping when I am awake and vice versa.
