The word horoscope means “a look at the hours.” Astrology and the creation of horoscopes have been around since the ancient Greeks.  Astrologers who create horoscopes take several things into consideration when writing them. The position of the sun and planets in correlation with specific zodiac constellations is one of the main determiners of a specific horoscope.

When people read their horoscope, they are looking at their zodiac sign. Each zodiac sign represents a different time of year. They are based off of the constellations represented at that time of year. There are twelve zodiac signs to be observed. These twelve zodiac signs are: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.

Aries – March 21 – April 20

Aries is the first sign in the zodiac. Aries is the sign of the ram and is ruled by the planet Mars. Aries are said to have the personality traits of being adventurous, energetic, confident, enthusiastic, witty, selfish, daredevils, impulsive, impatient, and quick-tempered.

Taurus – April 21 – May 21

Taurus is the sign of the bull and is ruled by the planet Venus. Taurus’ are said to have the personality traits of being patient, reliable, warmhearted, loving, persistent, determined, placid, jealous, possessive, restful, and greedy.

Gemini – May 22 – June 21

Gemini is the sign of twins and is ruled by the planet Mercury. Gemini’s are said to have the personality traits of being adaptable, witty, intellectual, youthful, lively, nervous, superficial, inconsistent, cunning, and inquisitive.

Cancer – June 22 – July 22

Cancer is the sign of the crab and is ruled by the Moon. Cancers are said to have the personality traits of being emotional, loving, intuitive, imaginative, cautious, protective, sympathetic, moody, touchy, clinging, and unable to let go.

Leo – July 23 -August 21

Leo is the sign of the lion and is ruled by the Sun. Leos are said to have the personality traits of being generous, broad-minded, creative, enthusiastic, expansive, faithful, loving, pompous, patronizing, bossy, interfering, dogmatic, and intolerant.

Virgo – August 22 – September 23

Virgo is the sign of the virgin or maiden and is ruled by the planet Mercury. Virgos are said to have the personality traits of being modest, shy, practical, diligent, intelligent, worriers, overcritical, perfectionists, and conservative.

Libra – September 24 – October 23

Libra is the sign of the balance and is ruled by the planet Venus. Libras are said to have the personality traits of being diplomatic, romantic, easygoing, idealistic, sociable, indecisive, changeable, gullible, flirtatious, and self-indulgent.

Scorpio – October 24 – November 22

Scorpio is the sign of the scorpion and is ruled by the planet Pluto. Scorpios are said to have the personality traits of being determined, forceful, emotions, intuitive, powerful, passionate, exciting, magnetic, jealous, compulsive, obsessive, secretive, and resentful.

Sagittarius – November 23 – December 22

Sagittarius is the sign of the archer and is ruled by the planet Jupiter. Sagittarius are said to have the personality traits of being optimistic, freedom-loving, jovial, honest, intellectual, philosophical, careless, irresponsible, superstitious, and tactless.

Capricorn – December 23 – January 20

Capricorn is the sign of the seagoat and is ruled by the planet Saturn. Capricorns are said to have the personality traits of being practical, prudent, ambitious, disciplined, patient, careful, humorous, reserved, pessimistic, fatalistic, and quick to hold a grudge

Aquarius – January 21 – February 19

Aquarius is the sign of the water bearer and is ruled by the planet Saturn. Aquarius are said to have the personality traits of being honest, loyal, original, inventive, independent, intellectual, friendly, humanitarians, dethatched, perverse, and unpredictable.

Pisces – February 20- March 20

Pisces is the sign of the fish and is ruled by the planet Neptune. Pisces are said to have the personality traits of being shy, romantic, trustworthy, aloof, dreamy, creative, understanding, unrealistic, and impractical.

Not everyone who falls under a certain zodiac sign has to have the personality traits listed. Those traits are just the common traits that astrologists have decided are generally fitting for the zodiac signs.
