The Basics of Model Aeroplanes
A simple guide to the basics of model aeroplane flying!
Flying model aeroplanes is a hobby that requires skill, hand eye co-ordination and patience. You need all of these because although it may look easy, you know pull the joystick back, now up, now left, it isn’t like this at all. Instead it may require years of training just to become really good. In this article I will go over some of the basics of model aeroplane flying.
How to hold the remote
Most of you may think that to hold the remote you just place your thumbs on top of the joysticks but no this may cause your thumbs to slip off mid flight which may cause your plane to crash and we don’t want that. Instead hold it with your thumb and your pointer finger. This may feel strange at first but it is a lot better.
Take Offs
There are two ways to take off a hand launch or a ground launch. For a hand launch simply have a person hold the plane (make sure they keep away from the propeller), Open full throttle and get the person holding the plane to throw it into the wind. For a ground launch just place the plane on the ground and build up speed then pull back on joystick.
Turning
To turn in the air simply move the joystick in the direction that you want to turn and pull back slightly to prevent the plane from going into a dive.
Landing
To land push down on the joystick and at the same time slowly lose speed by slowing down the motor. When you are very close to the ground flare up to land on your back wheels when you are on the ground you can cut the motor or speed up again to do a touch and go.
