The World’s Tallest House of Cards

The World’s Tallest House of Cards

Bryan Berg should be great at cards. If only he could stop stacking them in pretty shapes.

The Disney Castle

Iowa-born Bryan Berg here has been stacking suits since high school, and all that dedication has paid off.  Berg has broken the Guinness World Records seven or eight times as of October, 2007. Berg holds the current world record for the tallest house of cards, which stands a 131 storeys high, or 25th 3in! In fact Bryan’s so good, some people only conclude that he cheats. Not so, insists Bryan, long distance, reverse charge: “No Sellotape. No glue–these are the real thing.”

Vancouver

On effort alone, we believe him: the lanky craftsman’s first record-setting tower took him 40 hours and 208 decks to complete… and it only stood 14ft 6in off the ground. But since those early days, the pastrami-munching foreigner has completed all manner of cardy architecture including a huge (but not that huge) Empire state Building and a replica of Ebbets Field, a former brooklyn Dodgers stadium, which took 30,000 cards and 50 hours to complete. His next project is even more baffling– a card house in a wind tunnel. “It would be fun to see how it deflects air and holds up,” reckons Berg.
