Food

The most important thing in tailgating is the food. Bring your charcoal (best tailgating) or gas (easier tailgating) grills to your favorite spot and grill your meat, vegetables, and/or fruit (pineapple). You won’t lose any man points for grilling greens or fruit. The healthier you are the more football, basketball, and baseball seasons you can tailgate for.

Food Tips

Have a great burger recipe with bacon, onions, avocados, and have special sauces. Pre-make your burgers before you go to your parking spot. Make a checklist of all the necessary items you need to grill your food. You can tailgate in your front yard and keep track of all the items you need to make your food.

Music

Rock, oldies, pre-game shows, and even country (mixed in sparingly, definitely optional) are acceptable tailgating tunes. Watch your car battery and make sure you turn on your  engine occasionally to charge it.

Girls/Friends

The more people the more fun. Invite your friends and make new friends by inviting others to join in your fun. Tailgating is a great way to meet friends. Girls can also be sports fans and add to the tailgating experience. Share the fun and show off your tailgating skills.

Beverages

Beer is the favorite beverage of tailgating, but tailgating can also be alcohol free. Plenty of bottled water is important. Tailgating can be hot early in the season. If you decide to have alcoholic beverages at your tailgating party make sure to be responsible. I have had a few friends not make the game because they were “sick” or get kicked out of the game. Leave the Smirnoff ice’s and wine coolers at home or you’ll get some dirty looks.

Games

Bean bag toss, balls and ropes, and drinking games are all fun and entertaining games. But don’t underestimate the fun of throwing a football or a Frisbee with a friend. Games provide things to talk about and fun.

Tickets, Television, or Radio

Don’t forget that your supporting your team. Cheer them on at the game or in the parking lot. Also, you should be informed about the team and the game.
