How to Make a Bamboo Bee House
Help improve the dwindling bee population by building this easy DIY bamboo bee house.
The bee population is dwindling at an alarming rate, and since bees are our number one pollinators, we should do all we can to help bees survive and procreate. Providing bees with a welcoming shelter suited to them is one way we can do this, because not all bee species build hives. The orchard mason bee is one example. The orchard mason bee tops the list as a pollinator, but it a solitary creature that seeks shelter in narrow openings, such as the bamboo bee house I’m giving building instructions for. A bee house made from bamboo is a simple and inexpensive way that we can help the hard working bees survive.
How To Make A Bamboo Bee House
- Cut one bamboo reed that is approximately 1/4 inch in diameter into 6 inch lengths.
- Use a very sharp pruning saw to cut the bamboo so as to not crush the open ends.
- Bundle the cut lengths of bamboo and tie together with twine and place the bundle of bamboo in-between tree branches so it will be secure and the tree branches will offer additional shelter for the bees.
If you build it, the bees will come.
