The rules are pretty simple.  Ban any talk about work or anything that you would normally fight about.  Then pick an activity listed below, and enjoy.  If it is tough to agree on one thing to do, compromise by doing what she wants on one date night, and what he wants on the next, and continue alternating as needed.   If you are doing something you are not particularly fond of, go with your best attitude and be open-minded.

2. Go hiking
3. Go biking
4. Take a long walk at the park/beach/through the neighborhood
5. Go out for coffee and a pastry
6. Go skiing
7. Play scrabble/monopoly/your favorite board game
8. Go lingerie shopping and share fantasies of how it will be used next time you have sex
9. Try out a new restaurant
10. Go skating
11. Visit a place that means a lot to you
12. Try out a new wine
13. Take a dance class together
14. Visit a museum
15. Visit a botanical garden or arboretum
16. Go on a picnic
17. Go to a concert that you both would enjoy
18. Attend a play
19. Throw a party
20. Organize a double date with your best friends
21. Go bowling
22. Sing karaoke together
23. Hit the bar scene with your spouse (only flirting allowed is with your spouse!  Being drunk is not an excuse!)
24. Order pizza/take-out and snuggle with each other on the couch to the glow of a movie on the TV
25. Teach each other a hobby of yours that you had not shared with them.
26. Play Wii / Playstation / XBox
27. Have a double date with friends.
28. Go camping
29. Order take out and veg out together.
30. Read a book and exchange ideas about the book.
