A Great Canadian
A personal hero for many Canadians.
Many people argue that David Suzuki has become a rather iconic person because of his fame. While others say that he has attained his status through his work. I believe that no matter what someone’s status is, they should be acknowledged for what they do. David Suzuki may be a celebrity in people’s eyes but in his own eyes, I believe he sees himself as a rather, ordinary person that has a definite goal; “to find ways for society to in balance with the natural world that sustains us.”
David Suzuki has been an activist for a long time to reverse the effects of global climate change. As of 2006, his foundation has recorded at least 52 corporate supporting his actions. He has been working ever since against a band of sceptics that says that global warming does not exist and humans are the cause. There has been proof that global warming does exist; ice caps melting, rising sea levels, and record breaking weather events. Over the years, more and more people are coming to a conclusion, David Suzuki is right. The increasing amount of people that becomes aware of global warming is all due to David Suzuki, and his foundation
He co-founded the David Suzuki Foundation in which their main priorities are the climate change, preserving our oceans, a sustainable future, and his “Nature Challenge”. His foundation has done a lot of work in all these things. Probably the one that has affected most Canadians is his “Nature Challenge.” His challenge is for Canadians to commit to at least three of the four parts of the challenge. He says that if we can do it, we could anyone in the politics and business corporations to take action. I agree with him here because who’s to say what can or cannot be done? With influential people on his side, it becomes easier to persuade the public eye that we need to take action against these environmental problems. An example from his challenge is to take public action and let people know about what is going on around them. Awareness can definitely help widen the reach to stop global warming
He himself has restrained his own comfort for the sake of the environment. He now stopped his vacations overseas and even prefers to cluster his presentations together. He says he even prefers doing video conference to educate people. As I said before, he spent 40 years of his life education people about this crisis. His devotion and clear goal for success is un-rivalled. His dedication has not only resulted in many awards, or fame, but most importantly, it resulted in great outcomes. His foundation has 40,000 supporters and counting! His research is also the basis of many activists now in their fight to rid of global warming.
David Suzuki is an inspiration, a great Canadian, a hero for some, and most importantly, a man with great concern. His works are all dedicated to the well-being of our society. Without him, we might already be overwhelmed by our actions. All in all, someone might be famous, but that does not mean they care for the environment. David Suzuki is famous and yet, he cares about the environment so much.
