Bobby Lee From Summerville, GA
Bobby Lee Cook is one of the most sought out lawyers in the country. He has defended people from all over the world and has been inducted into the prestigious Trail Lawyer Hall of Fame but to his friends in Chattooga County he’s still just a good ole boy.
I grew up in Chattooga county and lived there most of my life. Bobby Lee Cook became the most famous person to come out of Chattooga County. He is a colorful character and a brilliant attorney known the world over for his rambunctiousness and spirit. I remember when he, and the sheriff at that time, Fred Steward would fight on the sidewalk in front of the court house. Fred started using the back door to the court house to keep from running into Bobby Lee. If anybody called Bobby Lee out, they had a fight on their hands.
He represented my husband once in a lumber deal. My husband had cut a tract of wood for this man and the man wouldn’t pay. My husband went to get Bobby Lee’s advise. Bobby Lee wrote the man a letter and told him to pay my husband or he would have to see him in court. The man paid and Bobby Lee charged my husband nothing.
Attorney Cook has made millions of dollars in his Law practice. His daughter Christine Connelly is in partnership with her dad. He has defended some of the worst accused murderers who have ever lived and gotten most of them off.

In the mid-1980s, he was having breakfast at a Summerville diner when a longtime friend approached his table to ask how he could represent a local man who was accused of killing four people.
“I explained the Sixth Amendment, right to counsel, innocent until proven guilty, right to confront your accuser,” says Cook. The friend gave Cook a puzzled look. A few days later, another longtime friend approached Cook, also seeking an explanation of how he could defend such a horrible person.
“I could tell you that it is the right to a fair trial, due process, effective assistance of counsel, but there’s more to it than just that,” Cook told his friend. “The guy paid me $150,000 in cash up front.”
“Well goddamn, Bobby Lee, responded his friend. “That’s great. We hope you win.””

I love this piece. As I was reading this, it had the feel of watching a plot unfold in a television show or a movie. I found this beautiful article to be so interesting, that it makes me want to know more about this Bobby Lee Cook. This article would make a good plot for a novel or for a series of short stories, a television series or even a movie, based on this attorney Bobby Lee Cook. He seems like an interesting person. I hope to read more about him in the near future.

Thanks to all my good friends. He is a character and a brilliant one at that. Matlock, the TV series was said to be based on Bobby Lee Cook. I loved the series but Matlock was very mild in comparasion to Bobby Lee. If you remember the book by John Berendt titled,
‘Midnight in the Garden of Evil” Bobby Lee was the lawyer who defended Jim Willians and was responsible for his acquittal.
