Charles Robert Darwin

Charles Robert Darwin was an extremely famous biologist, known for his study and modification of the theory of evolution.

The theory of evolution is the thought that man is the descendant of more primitive creatures, like the monkey and the ape.

Charles Darwin was born on the exact same day as Abraham Lincoln, February 12, 1809, in Shrewberry, England. In 1825, Charles went to Edinburgh University to study medicine. After a while the anatomy and health classes bored him, so he dropped out of college to study a different form of science. In 1828, Charles Darwin went to Cambridge University to study biology. He also learned a bit on geology.

Later on in 1831 after his schooling was finished, Darwin received a letter asking if he would like to be the naturalist upon The Beagle, a ship in which they would take to poorly known land to study different things. After receiving hard earned permission to set sail on The Beagle, Charles Darwin packed his bags, for he would be gone for around five years. With pencils, journals, and intelligence in hand, The Beagle traveled to the Canary Islands, all the way across South America, to Tahiti, South Africa and finally home once more in 1836.

With all this new information in his possession, Charles Darwin got all of his journals together and published them. Also, with some picked up information, Darwin started working on his theory of how primitive creatures (such as apes) evolved into us, man in1844. This was later known as his theory of evolution.

Also, once Charles Darwin returned from his voyage on The Beagle, he received a letter from Alfred Russel Wallace regarding his new theory on evolution. To Darwin’s shock, both Wallace’s and his theory were almost identical! So, they both joined up and presented their theory to the other big-name scientists. To many it is a wonder why every time they would present, their theory would go through fire and flames just to receive no respect from the other scientists.

Later on, in 1845, Charles Darwin published his most famous book in relation to his theory of evolution, Origin of Species. This caused some major commotion all around the scientific globe, as there was so much evidence, it could not be ignored.

In 1871, Charles Darwin further proved his theory after publishing The Decent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex. This also could not be ignored by scientists and Darwin’s theory of evolution was welcomed by most with a grumble and a sigh.

This theory was now disapproved by Christians all around because it interfered with their belief that God created man, not that they were evolved from some creature. Though they fought this, there is still a way that both theories, evolution and creationism (the theory that God created all mankind) can mold together as one. It may be true that man is a descendent of primitive creatures, but who’s to say God did not create these creatures with the knowledge that they would soon adapt to their surroundings and evolve into man.

Later on in his life, Charles Darwin became an agnostic, and then died at the age of 73 in 1882. Darwin is and will always be remembered for his theory of evolution, and how he changed the way man looked at life forever.
